I'd hate for him to leave and pursue another code at the risk of him getting accustomed to the sport, big money, lifestyle, the allure to play for the All Blacks or worse e.g., injured, sidelined and unable to return fully fit to the Roosters at a later date BUT at the age of 27 and what he has already achieved/accomplished maybe he's looking for something different with more bang for buck $$$. He's going to be behind Teddy again in 2025 and what if Teddy re-signs again for 2026 ?

Is he going to continue waiting around for a shot at the fullback role for perhaps a season or two 'at most' meanwhile there's young and upcoming outside backs at our disposal breathing down his neck plus add to that the other possibility that one of the Union converts (for example
    Nawaqanitawas
) could bypass him as our next potential fullback replacement after Teddy or the perennial golden boy "Suaalii" returns to us early to take that role ?

Too many variables for Joey and if it's a big pay day or different experience he's after, I wouldn't blame him for leaving ... BUT ... I do hope he remains with us !

At 6”4’ and 100kg does Joey have the durability to play fullback week in week out?

Has Joey ever been quoted saying that he wants to play fullback?

A string of calf snd hamstring injuries over the last few years would lead to me think the answer is a no to your first question.

In saying that I am certainly no oracle on such a matter
I respect all our moderators here. Past present and even future. Always have done and always will do a wonderful job.

Me neither. I just look at all the fullbacks and apart from Latrell and Turbo I think the rest are built slighter. And we all know how many games Latrell and Turbo miss.

On what grounds are you making this statement?
Hate to see what you earn if what they are on is a pittance

If you comprehended my initial post rather than acting like a child via a hostile response and furthering with using the words hate to see what I earn is really pathetic.

NRL and its various partners is astronomical in comparison to the paltry player payments for a 27 regular game competition.
You said they earn paltry player payments. Thats what I commented on and stick to what I said. Again, how do you backed up the statement compared to the average Australian wage earner working 38 hours a week and 48 weeks a year at an average of approximate 70k compared to NRL lowest 120k .
As I said its the train and trial and such players that cop the raw end of the stick .

The NRL makes 400 million a year alone in broadcasting rights just for the season, 32 million a year comes from New Zealand TV rights and then there is additional money made for international games, State Of Origin, Sponsors, Ticket Sales, Events etc.

When you look at that number which would surely be at least half a billion dollars a year it is hard to argue that superstar players who are the face of the game (Tedesco, Ponga, Manu, Walsh, Cleary etc) are properly compensated with their wages of 800k - 1.3m a season. Great wage compared to Joe the barber who makes 55k a year cutting hair but the NRL and their partners would be making millions and millions of dollars off the stars of the NRL and they don't seem to be that fairly compensated.

Personally I'd like to see the NRL attempt the marquee system which has worked well in the past for the A-League. For those unaware the league allows one player to be paid outside the salary cap as the designated marquee player. In the NRL that would allow a team such as ours to pay a key player (Such as Tedesco) under the marquee player rule and also pay Manu enough that he doesn't need to go and get a second job.

Nani was making over 2 million a year in his A-League stint and if you look at overseas athletes the gap is amazing, Steph Curry is on over a million dollars a week as is Joe Burrow in the NFL

Manu will surely take over from Teddy and be a one club life long Rooster legend.
He has the ability and opportunity to become one of the highest paid players in the game .

Marky Mark is definitely not going to be a NRL fullback according a Roosters supporting mate of mine who follows Rugby closely because he has a few sons who play at a high level. Also he wouldn't have the stamina after playing on the wing in Rugby.

Modern day fullbacks seem to have the most variety in physique and style of play imo. Manu has killed it for us many times at FB and has had MOM performances for NZ.

I see him as the most likely replacement for Tedesco when he retires.

Me too. I think if he wants the spot, his patience and loyalty should be rewarded. I’ve just never actually heard him say he wants to play fullback.

Manu isn’t worth near a mil until he is actually playing fullback

Give him a 2 year deal at centre money
