Great news. A very decent person and super player who has fought back from hardship. Rugby's loss.

I'd only be offering him a 1 year deal at this stage.

Let’s see how he goes in 2024
If he plays well and gets back to his best maybe a 1 year extension / if not we won’t offer him one
its amazing in contract years how well players pick up their game in order to get a new contract - let’s see if critchon does this

It isn’t great to know he is staying (assuming he does) simply because the better deal fell through.

If he was given permission to talk to rugby The Roosters musn’t value him too highly.

The Roosters gave Latrine permission to talk to i think . They gave Joseph permission certainly along with others . I think sometimes the Roosters like to be seen as a club that doesn't stop a person chasing there dreams . They also said Angus couldnt talk to other NRL clubs I think but am not certain of this

I like Angus, I just don't see where he fits in next year

                  11. Wong
                  12. N Butch
                  13. Radley

                  14. S.Smith
                  15. Sitili
                  16. Leniu
                  17. May

Then still have the likes of Whyte, E Butch, Watson to find bench spots for

It happens at every club where players coming off contract are given permission to negotiate with other clubs, so I don't see anything untoward in that.

As far as not fitting into the 17 goes, Angus Crichton will always be considered for selection each and every week when available.

If they have a light run injury-wise, they will have competition for spots in the 17, so players will need to play well to maintain their spot in the 17 each week, which can only be a good thing going forward in 2024.

He's already contracted for 2024. He needs to have a bumper season to warrant an extension.

When Union tabled its $1.6m contract...Gus should've grabbed it and signed it.
                          3 years guaranteed money.

                          Now look what's happened.
He only has 1 year guaranteed.

I think Angus would be in the starting team before Wong at this stage if he is back to anywhere near his best. Wong is a talent for sure but he's still only played a handful of games at NRL level

So the whole thing seems to be a scam & Angus was either caught up in it or in the dark.
seems RU contract was for $400k a season, yet his manager claimed it was $800k as a bargaining tool for Angus moving forward. He was either trying to get the Chooks to pay more to keep him but then they happily let him negotiate.
Looks like RU pulled out due to his managers demands, so surely puts Angus in a bad light either by his choice, or by having a shit manager who’s played his own client. He obviously has no RU chance moving forward after burning bridges & not sure many league clubs would pay his current price due to his issues & poor performances. Surely helps us next year as we offer $500k or let him walk when he finishes his current contract.
