we play to win comps so technically speaking anything short of that is a failure but we're not going to win it every year and no point in slitting our wrists or throwing the baby out with the bath water if it doesn't happen. the way the team has come home strongly means we can take something out of this season even if we lose this weekend

Yes where we are now isn’t a success or failure
just a pass mark and underwhelming to where we were meant to be
we have just scraped through to the 8 to make it not a failure

        that's more than 9 points PER GAME......WORSE,
we LOST 2 more games during the season proper this year than we did last year.
So there have been reasons to be disappointed.
With our roster, coach and facilities we were expected to do better.
Top 4 at least, with a second chance and a home final.

If we win this week then we make the final 4 so that has to be considered a successful season realistically.
We could and should have done better by finishing the regular season in the top 4 and given ourselves the week off if we won our first final.
No real point in going over what might have been, but we lost at least 3 games we should have won.

Right now we are still a chance, and the boys we have running out are making me proud to be a lifelong Roosters fan.
I have to agree with you, we should have finished higher on the ladder.

How the hell did the pretenders NZ finish 4th.

We missed out on watching home finals and we now must play in Melbourne.

At least we don't follow Tigers, Bulldogs, Dragons, Titans, Dolphins, Sea Eagles, Cowboys, Eels, Souths, Raiders or Sharks.

We get to watch our team week 2 of the Finals.

Only 3 players Keary, Collins, Nat Butcher have missed less than a month of football this season and the team enter this week missing 7 of the top choice 17, the expectations from some here are fine if this roster was remotely healthy this year (it wasn't), there has to be some adjustment built into expectations when the level of player availability dips below a certain threshold.

Success for the players who put in every game and were mostly the fall guys for the poor coaching choices. Failure to the coaches as we never clicked and still haven't. If we don't (re)sign all the up and comers then a huge failure to those responsible.

              It’s a strange one.

On one hand im amazed (proud even) that we are competing for a prelim spot, considering how bad our season was for the most part. It’s clear that we still play for one another, and as a group we haven’t ‘lost the dressing room’ or anything and backed ourselves 100%, even with another damn injury-filled list.

On the other hand this makes me wonder what could have been if we had gotten our sh!t together earlier in the season. We may have actually had a decent shot for a GF spot (and perhaps a win).
              EASTS TO WIN!

Bit mixed with my view now.

Big expectations early on then the big slide to the recent good form now.

Considering where we currently are & the large amount of players out it's probably a pass mark.

Anything from here onwards seems like a bonus.

We are in the finals, does it really matter what happened at the beginning of the year.
Either you are good enough or you are not. I believe Brisbane and Penrith are the best 2 teams, maybe if we didn't have all the injuries we could have clicked earlier but it just wasn't to be.
Unfortunately we have been cruelled by injuries, it takes good coaching, player management and some luck to win a GF.
I completely agree with everyone that we should have done better but it is what it is.
Some want a new coach but who?

                      We play for premierships...every year
When we don't win one it's a failure

But considering where we were in round 22....the season has turned around and no matter what happens from here it's been a success since then

Plus beating souths twice and ending their season is always added bonus points

If we are winning or at loosing but putting in massive effort like last week that's a win .If we are loosing and getting flogged and embarrassed by the vermin that's a loss .

Come to think of it, is it the first time in a while that we've won that Old Geeza Cup for beating them twice in a season?

Had I we lost tonight or prior to the second week with a close to a full-strength team it would have been a failure

Yes I think part of the story is that we all held it together and made the finals. Whereas, other teams have completely caved in after having some poor form.

IMO one of Robbo's biggest talents is being a unifying coach. He calms the ship and gives us continuity.

I thought we'd make the prelims along with the Panthers, Souffs and Broncos.

I think we can win it next year.
