my understanding is that his management asked for a release - we didn't offer him a contract for next year but nor did we sack him. seems like his management has asked to be paid out for this year and we've refused which allows to still pick him when the dust settles

Thanks Turk. I think the main thing I get from it is that he sounds like a bit of a prickly, divisive type of figure. I may be wrong but he’s had quite a few clubs now that have been happy to let him go, or at least don’t put up a huge fight to retain him.
