It would be interesting to see how many people on here who are bagging Phantom's petition were actually supportive of it (and possibly even signed it) at the time.

I will put my hand up and say that while I don't recall signing the petition, Braith had me fooled on the back of 2010, and I was happy when he re-signed.

Pearce is still learning the game. You wont see the best of him till he is 27 to 30 IMO I think he is worh persisting with.
The game against the Warriors when Mitchell started at No 9 playing dummy half, he was able to give Pearce fast quality ball which helped Pearces game.

Pearce needs to stand a little deeper in attack & recieve good quality ball from dummy half, the thing he needs to master is his 5th tackle option. He has to put kicks into the ingoal to get the team repeat sets, not go for the cross field kick every option..

Last year Carntey didn't do a thing, but in 2010, even from FB he offered a dangerous option in attack. That's what creates space for Pearce. The defense don't have one point of attack to number up on. They just triple team him now, they know where the balls going. From all reports in the trials with Mortein we looked much more dangerous in attack.

Imagine if he had a Hayne style ball player at FB and a Baloney at 5/8???

He's no superstar athlete or skilled freak. He's a solid organizer who can lead a side around when he doesn't have to run the whole attack solo. Even Carntey said Pearce did the organizing when he was here, Carntey admitted he was used purely in a running role.

Even Thursthead struggles when Bowen and Payne have been injured in past seasons. Now you have them fit and Segiaryo off the bench, Thurstheads a triple threat cos he's not able to be marked as heavily. And that's just an example, I'm not comparing Pearce with Thursthead, I'm comparing the ball players and speed thru the legs and hands and ears around them both.

Hopefully next season we fix our 6 and 1 issues and we see some real variety in attack.

Imagine I did praise smithy when he signed. All I recall is that I gave him the benefit of doubt as I try to do to everyone at the club until their performance over a period of time doesn't warrant it. But I might be wrong, I can't recall fully.
