I don't like the idea of a 5 man bench. The game is plenty fast already and it just means that players will be fresher when they come on the field. I don't think that too many coaches would use it the way you have envisioned by having outside backs on the bench. They would just run with 4 big boppers and the utility player.

A fiveman bench degrades the worthiness of the eighty minute player, the guy that is really fit , like a fitzgibbon or ricketson. Also a five man bench means clubs need even more depth with salary cap considerations. Keep it at 4 interchanges, reduce it to 8 interchanges and see more tries as the non 80 minute players get tired!

No video Ref.
If the two idiots on the field have to call it in real time, so be it. They will make errors, but when the video ref makes errors, having the benefit of slow mo, then whats the point? i can wear a mistake at real time.Alcohol never solved any life problems.....then again neither did milk.

That's all they need. Another reason to say "oops we made a mistake".

and could you really wear that mistake that costs the Roosters the game when a look at the video would have meant a Roosters win?

- final 10 minutes of the match time stops whenever the ball is not in play (includes kicking goals)
- overhaul of the 2 referee system (a head referee controls the match the entire 80, assistant referee monitors the ruck, forward passes, knock ons)
- return of draws for regular premiership matches, return to 15 minutes each way for finals and Origin
- video referee only used for determining whether the ball was correctly planted over the line. (offsides, obstructions etc must be ruled by the head referee on the field at the time - captain can challenge it if he feels the referee is wrong)
- Captain's challenge system
