Can't say I ever listened to or enjoyed the 'songs of [my] era'.
However, when a pop star from the previous era dies, all my FB friends all start crying and pretending they were massive fans (when in reality, their songs were all daggy, random tunes that you'd hear as background music while playing Pac-Man at some old pizza shop... memorable... but not tunes that most would consider their all-time favourites unless their dad locked them up in his mancave, held a shotgun to their head and said 'listen son, THIS is the only REAL music!!!').

If my Mum was still around, I would have bought this for her. The songs of Elton John and Bernie Taupin covered by country singers such as Vince Gill, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Don Henley, Little Big Town, Dolly Parton, Roseanne Cash and Miranda Lambert:

Not sure if this link works, but its one of the great pop tunes of the era. So good it didn't matter whether you agreed with the sentiments or not.
