Pado you asked for suggestions not explanations . I have and that's what I would like to be looked at by the experts .Sure of course you would come to his defence .You were one of the like minded I spoke ofOriginally posted by Paddo Colt 61 View Post
Would not agree with that '08, the man is a poet, primitive to be sure, but an imagination beyond our ken.
Surely he deserves a straight answer because this is what the thread is about, we're not here to sling shit so you need to recant with whatever dignity you can summon. You need to say it was a thought bubble poorly thought through. Humble pie it's called.

Yep I get that MR and of course as has been suggested by economists that have suggested raising GST that there would be a need for subsides for pensioners and the low income .But personally as a higher income and higher spender I would possibly be worse of .My biggest gripe is big companies paying no or little tax , those who having never worked not contributing and those who have ran there own small business and employed workers be taken for rideOriginally posted by mightyrooster View Post
I don’t like that idea at all. So someone on a lower income spends proportionately more of that income on basics like doctors, medicine, school fees, kids clothing, petrol, bills etc than someone on a much higher income?

Honestly Why didn’t you just respond in that manner to me I’d have asked no further questionsOriginally posted by Rooster1908 View Post

You were asking genuine questions and of course you are not only allowed to ask such questions but encouraged to do so.Originally posted by Andrew Walker View Post
Red I was asking genuine open minded questions as to his proposal. Am I not allowed to do this ?
The problem is that Rooster08 made it clear he was not going to explain his idea to you.
I only asked that you put Rooster08 on ignore as he was not going to answer your questions and the situation was deteriorating.
So apologies if you feel I was singling you out. That was not my intention. My intention was to avoid further conflict. I hope this makes sense.

Experts? I think Randy pretty much demolished the suggestion, with common economic sense. Is there more to it than your brief flurry? The thought came to me that you might have posted from the Club with nothing coming up on the Kino and Parra losing.Originally posted by Rooster1908 View Post

Andy was insistent but respectful and it was an important question because you right wing chaps do tend to bombast. But people shouldn't be pressed too hard to explain. MR is the only contributor with Economics credentials as far as I'm aware.

I think RR does a pretty good job of explaining it. You need more than a tax on consumption.Originally posted by Rooster1908 View Post

Sorry Pado I don't gamble and Parra???? Not sure what that means . Wasn't talking about economic experts on a forum , I was suggesting real people not so called experts that spruke there so called talents .I will continue I my own field of the building industry and commercial investment and leave you to pretend you know what your on about .But you do have a talent of attacking when you disagree and simply lost for real answers .RR didn't demolish anything as he only looked at the GST as it is now not as it would be .The system we have now is complicated and has to many levels to implement.2/3 of those would be abolished and it would be harder to dodge tax .Large mining companies and billionaires pay far less than 20% in real world tax Pado and you know it . Especially the overseas ones which is the majority .Originally posted by Paddo Colt 61 View Post

the super profits tax was a good idea. no doubt mining companies need to be fairly rewarded for outlays and risks taken but they're plundering resources that belong to all of us. it was a no brainer, a good idea wrecked by greedy mining companies, abbott's need to find an issue to campaign on and by labor's inability to argue the case.
they say productivity is the thing to work on now so hopefully some good ideas come out of the summit

Exactly. The end game is always political. The Libs and some Labor will always defend class privileges and we have truckload of sops to the wealthy. My bet is a GST hike and maybe on everything including food.Originally posted by mightyrooster View PostJust putting it out there, I don’t claim to be an expert. I completed my Economics degree 37 years ago and these debates are not always about pure economics are they? They tend to be about politics.
There was a time pre Howard when pensioners paid no tax, now they pay the same tax as Rupert.

If they add the GST to everything including basic food, health and education there will be an uproar from the electorate given the current cost of living situation.Originally posted by Paddo Colt 61 View Post

Also, as others have already said, I can’t see Labor returning to the CGT and negative gearing reforms they so disastrously failed to explain in 2019.Last edited by mightyrooster; 08-17-2025, 11:33 PM.

It's hard to see how any progressive policies can be explained and sold to the unconnected populace when the media is owned and controlled by the ruling class. Whitlam had to go to Double Dissolution to enact his reform agenda including Medibank. Our right wing media militated against all of it. As it was, Shorten's loss was a narrow oneOriginally posted by mightyrooster View Post
