So no income tax, no company tax, no payroll tax, just one tax on spending?

Well for a start Australia collects about 700 billion annually and the GST takes in 80 billion of it.....so doubling the GST rate would only raise 160 billion- needless to say that would leave a massive shortfall. You would have to start at around 50% GST minimum.

Inflation would be a killer....The Reserve Bank would have to tighten monetary policy hard, likely pushing the economy into recession. Health, education, and welfare—used more by lower and middle-income households—would effectively be funded disproportionately by them.

Mining giants, big banks, and billionaires would be happy because they would pay proportionally less tax. The old wogs with cash under the mattress would be happy too!

Now as foolish as you foolishly thought I was for double and triple checking The response from Randy was I did so

Now perhaps you are not only a rags to riches business success, but I find myself pondering could we be in the company of an economical genius ?

Would you be so kind as to provide such figures that would put to bed both Randys and my own initial scepticism of your very interesting proposal

No I’m legitimately interested in how your proposal would be successful and seeing you threw it out there thought you might be able to show us

Would not agree with that '08, the man is a poet, primitive to be sure, but an imagination beyond our ken.

Surely he deserves a straight answer because this is what the thread is about, we're not here to sling shit so you need to recant with whatever dignity you can summon. You need to say it was a thought bubble poorly thought through. Humble pie it's called.

I don’t like that idea at all. So someone on a lower income spends proportionately more of that income on basics like doctors, medicine, school fees, kids clothing, petrol, bills etc than someone on a much higher income?

This thread concerns the taxation system of Australia and any improvements that could help the country move forward.

Obviously people will have different opinions and may not agree with each other. And that is perfectly fine.

What is not fine is starting a tit for tat argument that will never reach a resolution.

I kindly ask that the two of you take advantage of the ignore button.

I know you will find this hard to believe but I nor any of the Mods enjoy closing threads and or banning members.

                                Thanks.
