  • The Coming Tax Review.

Soon the Government will sit down to beg the rich to part with more in the interests of the nation. The Rich have never done that willingly so is this just another cap in hand exercise or are the cautious right wing of the ALP, now emboldened by the election bonanza, gonna take them on? In any event Sky will be apoplectic.

Experiences, like the Super Profits tax, demonstrate that the masses are sympathetic to the privileges of wealth but maybe times are changing. If it can cut through the media static, the Gov has to explain Trusts and Subsidies and the like- good luck with that to be honest.

What areas do we think should be looked at?

Wish I was rich. If so, travel, travel and more travel. (and of course get to more Roosters games).

              GO ROOSTERS.

Three ways to fix the tax system.

                1. Reinstate the full fringe benefits tax.

                2. Tax all trusts at the top marginal rate.

                3. Close all loopholes that allow overseas companies to pay themselves their own profits.

Oh, and another one. Grandfather negative gearing and isolate it to one property only.

The country would be as rich as Croesus.

Yet the first thing you’ve done on here after our brilliant victory was pass your judgement on the thread starter for the timing of this thread

Back to tax, my tip is a hike in the GST to 15%. Howard gave us a regressive tax where Gina pays the same GST as the beggar on the street.

Sally McManus and the Union movement want significant changes including-

                      * 25% minimum on gas exports.

*25% minimum on Trust funds an on those earning $1m +

                      * Just one investment property eligible for Neg Gearing. Just 1% own 25% of all investment properties.

                      * Workers sharing productivity. Union research points out that had workers' wages shared in productivity growth over the last 20 years they would be 18% higher now, over $300 a week.

Although Shorten and the tax reforms that he proposed only lost by a whisker, the gutless ALP doesn't want to return to them, or to tax refunds to who people haven't paid any tax,+ despite the Greens holding the BOP in the Senate. It could be revolutionary but no way the ALP is going to give any credit to them. Besides the ALP has no real wish to upset the status quo.

I've voted ALP my whole life. With all due respect Paddo, Labor should have won that election in a landslide. Shorten's inability to clearly articulate the benefits of negative gearing and capital gains tax reform killed any chance that Albanese will revisit those reforms. As you say the ALP will stick with the status quo.
