Over the last few days both Coles and Woolworths in my local centre had the chicken lovely legs reduced because they were coming up to the best before date, made me go back to an old cook book i have which has a great casserole recipe in it which uses lovely legs, squizzed through some other recipes in it and it had a simple chicken curry recipe which looked good, the better half is assembling it now, would usually uses thigh fillets for a dish like it but the Coles deli had chicken breast on special so much cheaper than the thighs so using breast for it. Picked up some lovely legs to make the casserole later, Coles still had some reduced that were used by today and reduced to 80c to get rid of them but i bought some with good date on them, i am a bit more fussy when it comes to chicken with the used by dates.
Needless to say with the chicken curry being made tonight the massaman paste is still sitting in the cupboard.
I was looking for lovely legs for apricot chicken on Saturday and Coles didn’t have any. So I bought the macro ones from Woolies and they stank so bad I took them back. They were still within the use by date too. I swapped to chicken thigh cutlets after that. It’s not the first time I’ve bought macro chicken from there and it’s had this very strong unpleasant smell. It’s always good when you get a great special though isn’t it.

In Woolies it was the macro ones which were reduced, still had a day on them they also had their own brand at normal price , Coles had their own brand with a day on them reduced which i probably would have bought to freeze but not much room in the freezer, when in there today they had ones to use by today really reduced but i went no but bought some with good date on at normal price. My local Coles haven't had them in stock for a long while but seem to have them back again in stock over the last few weeks. The casserole i use the lovely legs in is tomato based and red wine vinegar, the sauce left over makes a great pasta sauce.

One of my favourites. Best one I've had was at a pub in Ballarat back in 2007 when I lived in Melbourne. Unreal.

                  • Made a pasta with prawns and mussels, pretty decent. Before it i had marinated octopus which i put in an avocado, it worked a treat.

Made the casserole on Monday with the lovely legs, it was nice.
Used the left over sauce with pork chipolatas, added grated zucchini and roasted capsicum into it and served with pasta last night.

Tonight it's Greek lemon style boneless chicken with roast potatoes and carrot, pan fried baby asparagus and steamed broccoli.

If i can't format the casserole recipe to post i will hand write it and post it.
