Both parties aren't worth voting for so what's the alternative..Greens .
IMO the big picture question is asking who's gonna be PM.
While I appreciate the idea that 'both are farked so I'll go Greens or Independents'... somebody's still gonna have to be PM. This person will either be a centre-left (Labor) or centre-right (Liberals) politician.
Does any party represent all my personal views? Obviously not. However the big question is whether I'm for a mor progressive, or a more conservative agenda.
Personally I have my social issues where I'm a bit of a conservative. For example I'm not pro-drugs (I think they're validly regulated & not a very productive 'recreational' activity) and I don't like policies such as slamming landlords with ridiculous taxes. However I'm not a fan of nuclear power, outsourcing the public service to $$$ consultancy firms or blaming migrants for all our woes. I'm also pro-reconciliation & believe Indigenous Australians need to be properly celebrated, which includes helping them to preserve their culture, history, languages, independence and cultural sites (including US style schemes where they can bill mining company for usage of their historic sites + play a big role in making sure they don't do evil shit like blowing up 20,000 year old paintings/artefacts).
Overall I'm a progressive and that's where I stand. However I'm not the type who wants to commercialise drugs, slap massive taxes on the middle-class to fund overly generous social welfare programs, penalise landlords (aka 2/3 of Australians) and dole out free housing for people who are struggling to save up a deposit. In short, I think there's need for balance and that's why governments are generally formed by centralist parties.
Heck in Canberra I honestly wouldn't mind if the Libs got in for a few terms to can some of the policies that have been rubber-stamped during the 20+ year progressive majority (including Labor/Greens coalitions at time). There's some mind boggling shyte that gets runber-stamped when one side of politics is in for too long (usually resulting in a lot of wasted public money / red tape... cough cough... trams because 'all mature cities have trams'... thanks Drew...) and balance is an important part of democracy.
Unsurprising. Abbott did the same thing and lied about no cuts to a list of things. We then copped the infamous 2014 budget. In this, the msm was deeply complicit applying no pressure on the Libs whatsoever . Can you imagine a progressive party trying on the same stunt? Media massacre.
Presumably he plans a populist "woke" clean out Trump style. Medicare would have to be on the list after all private enterprise would have it running cheaper and better like the NBN. Anyway how woke is caring for sick people - a waste of taxpayers' money like that NDIS which they almost had down the toilet.
The success or otherwise of all this Trumpist populism will depend on the extent to which the Trump zeitgeist has taken hold in Oz. Murdoch's going hell for leather on it and one should never overestimate the the intelligence of the swinging voter. Sky promotes an impression that we live in the USA and those swinging meatheads are nothing if not gullible.
So get with the program like you have here I'm presuming.Gee you buggers like a bob each way
A fair enough point '08 but Andy has already rebuked others and attempted to draw a line re off topic posting so those annoying digressions will hopefully be limited going forward. Mostly irrelevant posting is intended to derail the conversation but I trust that wrecking isn't your motive.

God know Pado . As long as the bullying is kept under control and people such as yourself and AW don't make preemptive strikes against the likes of me and Jack because you believe wrongly without confirmation of my political views.

My dear compadre. That should read Jack and I not me and Jack. Also it is God no Not God know There is no preemptive strike made against Jaxxx ( I like that terminology and I’ve used it before Good to see you using this term as well It’s always good when you see you have broadened another’s vocabulary) Even more so when it is yourself a man from humble beginnings and a tough upbringing who has made it in life.
Now perhaps we have you wrong I see you are saying you dislike both sides and I understand this viewpoint as I’m pretty much similar However on this occasion seeing I detest Dutton so intensely I must take the side of Labor
Now in regards to Jaxxx he has made his political affiliations very clear and very vocally on here for well over a decade There is no doubting which side he sits on and whilst this is his right Neither PC or myself can be accused of pre emptive strikes when it comes to his political affiliations.

I was taught we can all learn things from one another. I was meagrely trying to share some knowledge with a humble yet successful business man such as yourself You know I’ve previously mentioned how I look up to you as a true rags to riches story
I am of the belief that sport snd politics do not mix and should not mix
My electorate is a swinging seat of late One that Labor has no hope of winning So I will have to vote in a way to ensure the Libs don’t get that seat back
Oh Fcuk it could actually see me voting for Allegra Spender But this could be the price to pay for doing everything I can with my meagre one vote I have to keep Dutton out of office
When you trust your television
what you get is what you got
Cause when they own the information
they can bend it all they want

And of course you would expect myself and others to appreciate your words of wisdom .Sounds a bit like listening not Ablo and Costello

Not at all Whilst a little gratitude would have been appreciated I have shared what I shared with no expectations of anything in return This my compadre is part of the metta bhavana I mentioned yesterday
Now I’ve answered your preemptive strike where you appear to have made your own assumptions and judgement on my motivation or expectations Let’s now try to stay on topic here

You lose Andrew Walker. Quite simply, you have contradicted yourself.
The correct phrase is "God knows," meaning that something is unknown and only God has the answer; "God no" is not a common phrase and would not be considered grammatically correct in this context.
"Do you expect me to talk"? "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die".

Nothing wrong with voting strategically. I voted for Spender in the last election, she relies on those tactical votes and will no doubt win the seat again. The wealthy and well educated have abandoned the climate sceptics and the Libs, in turn, are aiming at the vote of the less well educated working class in the outer suburbs. If the Trump zeitgeist is strong enough and Sky has managed to influence them sufficiently, they won't worry about no policies, they wouldn't worry even if policies are revealed beforehand. They go on the vibe of the thing mostly.
I'm now in the electorate of Whitlam held by Stephen Jones, the assistant treasurer. Unfortunately he's leaving parliament and won't stand at the next poll. Pity because he is a brilliant individual. The seat was previously Throsby but the redrawing of the boundary saw a large section of the highlands now in Whitlam. What heartburn that would have caused. This is an area that elects Real Estate Agents and developers to local council.

You simple fool. I suggest you read 08s post again He replied God Know to a question that was posed that being was he trying to wreck the thread That should have read God no
The term or phrase is used when someone sure of their answer and is being very firm in letting others know it Simply put it is a stronger way of saying no meant to put more emphasis on the answer.
Now a polite reminder this is The Upcoming Federal Election thread In future should you wish to contribute Please stick to topic
