  • Update regarding Angus

As per @miksrugbyleaguechat on Instagram: Angus Crichton is set to miss some, if not all of the 2023 NRL season - due to mental health issues, announcement to be likely to be made tomorrow.

Take this with a GRAIN OF SALT as said source is not as reliable as others out there, but might dispel why we weren’t seeing him in training camp photos/Egan playing on his side in training videos

Update: Daily Telegraph have come out and posted as well. “Key Roosters forward Angus Crichton is set to miss an extended period of football after being granted leave from the club”

Nooooooo! Please don’t be true. Was expecting a bumper year from him. He has been at training as I’ve seen him in supporter pics after training….

In previous years, Angus consistently in photos. This time on & off. Telling when he wasn't in Queenstown.

The season?! I dare say if it is true Robbo would want to give him time and space but the season?! Surely not

Very sad to hear Angus is having a tough time. The football part is irrelevant, I hope he can get himself right.

                    From the Tele...

Angus Crichton’s availability for the opening round of the premiership is in doubt after he took time off from a Sydney Roosters’ pre-season camp in New Zealand to deal with personal issues.

Crichton, a fixture in the Roosters back row, missed the club’s camp in Queenstown last week and only rejoined his teammates at training this week.

He was left out of a strong Roosters side named for their opening trial against the Melbourne Storm in Geelong on Sunday and there are now doubts over whether he will be ready for the start of the premiership - the Roosters kick off their year against the Dolphins in round one.

The Roosters can ill-afford to be without Crichton, a crucial member of the Australian side that won last year’s World Cup.

However, they are fortunate to have youngster Siua Wong in reserve - he has been named alongside Egan Butcher in the second row for the game against the Storm.

The 19-year-old Wong was a member of the Fijian side at the World Cup and has been earmarked for big things by the club.

Tough one hey. Obviously as fans we’d love him to be around but his health comes first, and it seems the club has acted in accordance to that. The Telegraph also just reported and mentioned an “extended period of leave”, so I wouldn’t write off it being for the 23 season.

I didn't believe in mental health until my Daughter stopped talking to me or seeing me on August 23 2021 without a single reason why, she was 16 then. Have heard a single word , text or seen her since then. Mental health is very very real
I hope Gus is ok eventually and gets the help and support he needs

Jesus mate, that is terrible. I hope it turns around. I agree though, depression is very real and very terrible. 20 years ago people would have scratched their heads at a successful NRL player being depressed but things have changed significantly.
