  • Mini's metres

Yes, I know... The Count is no longer the electrifying try scoring machine that he once was...

But people here seem to speak of him as a clapped-out waste of space. He is not. Here are some stats for these people to think about (from NRL.com):

"Minichiello is the Roosters’ go-to man on kick returns, adding 140 metres fielding punts just last week; he leads the league with 271 kick-return metres overall, plus he ranks second behind Paul Gallen for total territory (544 metres)."

No. no. no. no and no. Stats actually prove the fact that that he is not going well.

He has had 64 runs. 64 get it. Way way too many. Many of these are runs that should be taken by big bopper forwards not Mini as he gets dominated. Due to his light weight of 69kg tacklers can turn him around, dominated and hence a slow play the ball and we are on the back foot immediately.

For me the problem is that Mini and Sammy run too many times and our forwards should bend their backs more in this area.
A few runs are fine but it is overkill at the moment.

The difference is that Gallen can break tackles and get offloads away... i still think mini's our best 1 atm.

There is no way Mini only ways 69kg.

He isn't the biggest out there, but there is no way he's that small.

Yep i read that too, i tend to agree with you, plus its great seeing a one club man going hard for the RWB week in week out Most complaints however have been directed at his handling, but hey, at least hes going forward!

You don't need to be massive...

Many BIG men intentionally go to ground so that they can then do a quick play the ball...etc. People wrestle you, hug you and slow the ball down if you do a massive hit and try to keep going. Sure it draws in defenders, but that plays a different purpose.

Play makers like Mini want to make good metres then offload the ball ASAP.

So far he is butchering the backline by trying to start or finish every thing -he is not a creator or play maker never was he should be third man jogging on the spot thats what he is good for now.

Anyone that loves the club as much as Mini does will always be welcome in my team, you never question whether he is giving 100% for his team.

That being said I would just want Pearce to stop doing those inside passes to Mini when he is about a millimetre from the defensive line, not only is it being read too easily and never going to work, but 80% of the time he drops the ball, but that being said, most players would drop a bullet pass from point blank range with defenders so close to you.

I think Mini should just be focusing on chasing kicks and being there in support so when other players make a break, he can be there to receive the offload, that is where he would be best utilised in my opinion.

The weight given on the club's website is a typo. He would be 86kgs.

Mini's meters - massive quantity....no quality what so ever. I dont think he's broken a tackle since 2004.

No stat will hide the fact he is past it, way, way past it.

Mini might be able to run when there is no one in front of him, but put an opposition player in his way and his metre's begin to reduce at the point of impact. Add to that as fullback he hasn't stopped an opposition try in 3 years!

Mini is a Walkinshaw Commodore - might look the goods but in reality is a gutless, plastic pile of shit!

                          Chook.

                            Mini69er = Fred69er????

Lol@someone for blaming Pearces bullet passes as the reason Mini can't catch.

Mini runs into holes often, problem is he drops the pill when he is in space.

And when he's not in space he catches the pill but gets belted by a defender, and of course drops the pill from impact.

He used to be our best support player, now due to lack of pace he's our worst.

I'm actually starting to warm to the idea of putting him on the wing. Our wingers don't make breaks anyway so we wouldn't lose much there.

Trouble is Pezzdispenser wasn't the answer at FB. I still recall his season there, screaming at the Teev for our new FB to run a line and hit a hole, like our old FB did. Pezz had NFI about fullback play unfortunately.

It's been our Achilles since that McDruggie dumped Mini on his melon all those years back. Every other teams strengths start at 1, our 1 is and has been our weakness for 5yrs at least now.

And his defense, the worst in the comp, as it's always been.

He could never pass. And now he can't catch.

Is there a position in League where you can run into space withOUT the ball, and that be marked as a positive contribution? Mini would be perfect, the veritable Mr Golden Boots at Space Running.
