  • Send-Offs & Sinbins

Send Offs - only if someone punches, kicks, elbows, knees or gouges someone deliberately. Not for tackles gone wrong even if careless incl. head highs or lifting tackles. e.g. Manly guy tonight stays on, goes on report.

Sinbins - only for professional fouls, not for other foul play. e.g.Toups stays on last week, goes on report. (they got that one right, but too often not).

These decisions decide games, and ruin the spectacle for the consumer.

Just my thoughts...want games decided by the players, not the officials.

Sorry, you can’t stay on the field after a tackle like that. It was an absolute shocker

10 in the bin would have been sufficient.
Lawton just got the tackle wrong.
Game was finished as a spectacle after 9 minutes.
Manly may have just walked off the field after that., and forfeited
They had no chance with 12 men , for 70 minutes.
Also my punt on the chip stealers was dead in the water, same as all the Manly punters who lost their money.
Referees rule this game, not the players.

BTW, this game featured the second "forward pass" that I have seen in two weeks, that wasn't a forward pass.
Annersley, can you tell us when these f*^king idiots will get it right?

As per the NRL rules the Manly player could have put on report and sin binned for 10 minutes of be sent off as it's at the discretion of the Referee and or Review Officials.

Player misconduct 3 - "Uses any dangerous throw when affecting a tackle"

                or

Foul play - Dangerous Throws in which the head or neck of the attacking player make forceful contact with the ground

PLAYER MISCONDUCT A player is guilty of misconduct if he:

                1. ‘Trips, kicks or strikes another player’
                2. ‘When affecting or attempting to affect a tackle makes contact with the head or neck of an opponent intentionally, recklessly or carelessly’
                3. ‘Uses any dangerous throw when effecting a tackle’
                4. Applies any unnecessary pressure or twists including grapples, crushers or performs a chicken wing on a player in possession
                5. Unnecessarily contacts a player not in possession or a kicker (see Tackle and Play the ball)
                6. When a defender forcefully spears at the legs of a player in possession exposing him to unnecessary risk of injury
                7. Shoulder Charge (see Tackle and Play the ball)
                8. ‘Disputes a decision of the Referee or Touch Judge’.

                In these circumstances:

A penalty kick shall be awarded against any player who is guilty of misconduct (Section 15) provided that this is not to the disadvantage of the non-offending team.’

Additionally a Referee or Review Officials may:

‘In the event of misconduct by a player at his discretion, caution, temporarily suspend for 10 minutes (Sin Bin), or dismiss the player.

If an incident is significant enough a Referee will also place the player(s) or incident on report

                Sin Bins

I think the first 3 below - Repeated infringements / Professional Foul and Cooling off period for a player should be 5 minutes and not 10 -maybe dissent depending on what it is

The six main reasons for a player to be temporarily suspended for ten minutes are:

                1. Repeated infringements
                2. Professional Foul
                3. Cooling off period for a player
                4. Dissent
                5. Striking
                6. Foul Play*

                * Foul Play

A player will be sin binned for foul play in circumstances where, in the opinion of the referee, the act of foul play is of a serious nature, but does not warrant sending off. Acts of foul play of a serious nature include:
                • High Tackles with direct contact with the head or neck which are deemed forceful
                • Dangerous Throws in which the head or neck of the attacking player make forceful contact with the ground
                • Shoulder charges which make forceful contact with the head or neck of the attacking player or make forceful movement of the head or neck of the attacking player (whiplash) Crusher tackles in which a defending player has a grip/hold of the attacking player with both arms and applies unnecessary pressure or force to the head/neck/spinal column of the player.
                • Any other act of foul play which the referee deems to be of a serious nature, but does not warrant sending off.

10 in the bin would of been the right call.
I think its backlash from Tupou not been sent last week after the media got involved as usual.
There will have a crackdown for a couple of weeks and I fear when Tupou does something wrong again he will be a marked man and have the refs making up for it by not sending him.

As Jack said, it ruined the game for the consumer.
Can you imagine how you felt if you were a Manly fan, travelled all the way to the game, then have the match decided by the ref?
I thought the NRL was trying to increase attendances at games, not decimate them.
If you don't like dangerous tackles, amend the sin bin time for these offences to 15 minutes.
That's sufficient penalty, and let MRC decide on the severity of the suspension.
Don't send someone off for an entire game (unless it is totally warranted) , therefore ruining it for everyone.

And if it had been a Rooster player on the receiving end of that tackle?
I'm sure we would be magnanimous towards the instigator.

Thanks King for the rules readout (not being sarky, handy to know).

But my points are they need to change. Including no bins other than for professional fouls, like it formerly was.

13 on 13 games for 80 minutes should be the default goal. And may the best team win.

I stopped watching after 10 minutes last night. The result was a forgone conclusion. Ruined the game and was devastating to see that filthy club get such a leg up.

Old mates dangerous tackle from manly needed a 10 minute break. That would be enough time for a player to reflect on that moment.
i have a problem with the send off because that effected the whole game but doesnt appear in any part of the punishment the judicary hands down. I believe the sinbinning of a player, that that time should be worth X amount of points. Those points count as time served. Lets say 15 points rediction from his punishment.
the 2poo tackle was worth 200 points. If he was sent. Its worth 185 points
                              Just an idea.
If he was sent lets say a 30 point reduction for served time reduction
