  • Strike Players

Besides SKD, who else really is a strike player in the side?

The speed and foot work he has helps him make something out of little chances, the defensive sides seem to allocate more attention to him which creates more opportunities elsewhere.

Unless we have super halves, we need more strike players that can take half a chance. I am being captain obvious but hell, the same problem year after year.

Tagive despite his limitations has strike power, and everyone will be hoping Moga goes ok. They're both 2 of the fastest in the club too which helps.

I was thinking about this today. We really lack in the star quality department. I don't mean big name players, rather players who can come up with that big play. I look at teams like Melbourne and Manly, and they seem to have those players in abundance:
          Melbourne - Slater, Smith, Cronk
Manly - DCE, Foran, Lyon, Stewart

In our side, I can't name one. We do not have a single player who can change a game just like that. Souths have two - Burgess and Inglis. Parra has one in Hayne. Tigers have a few in Marshall, Lawrence and Farah. Us? None. We need more of that. Not so much the big name - Myles was a big name but he wasn't going to turn a game for us. But a player who has that incredible ability to change everything in our favour, whether through a massive hit or a line-break. SKD is close, but he is about as consistent as baby shit.

This would be nice. Even though he'll take a massive chunk out of our salary cap, we really do need that kind of star quality somewhere in our side. Especially if we want to compete with the big boys. He'll be perfect on the edge of the ruck. Something I noticed today was that players avoid running at Masoe at all costs. They'll change direction as soon as they see him, heading towards the backrowers or somewhere else. Imagine if they changed direction into a SBW shoulder? Or indeed, a JWH shoulder?

TBQH we don't have enough strike players to win a premiership. IMO you need at least 3.

Should have this next year with:
                    - SKD
                    - Moga (needs a season to develop)
                    - SBW.

We will then have a second tier of players good enough:
                    - Spine of Maloney, Pearce, Friend (need a fullback as mini too old and RTS too young)
                    - Front Row Rotation of Tasi, Mose, MK (one needs to step up)
                    - Back Row Rotation of Cordner, Aubusson.

Find some good speedy wingers and we are set.
