I just want to preface this by saying the following: I do not want people thinking that this is a topic for saying we’re not going to win the league, or that I want the whole team sacked because I don’t. I just want to have a rant about the game cause it was extremely frustrating watching it. Strap yourselves in!

I’m going to start with the positives; Sam walker! Gee we have a special one. He just gives me the impression that every time he touches the ball he’s a chance to create something.
I thought sitili played well, hitting hard lines, as did radley, who is a player that just commands respect on both attack and defence.
Taukeiaho had a good game as did Momo, who really impressed me with his play to keep in a dead ball, and the final try we scored.
And then there’s tupou. Did he have a great game... no. But he is an unspoken hero for us. he never has a bad game for us and as robbo says owns the air.
While manu didn’t have a great game, I do think he has to be the most dangerous red zone player in the league, make of that what u will.

Now we go onto the negatives of this game, and for me there are many.
Tedesco for me had one of his worst games in a roosters jersey but what I was particularly unimpressed with him was a play around the 50th minute where he throws a no look pass with a low success rate to Billy Smith. The pass was terrible but instead of taking responsibility he turns around and starts shouting at Smith. That is not the trait of a true captain. No I’m not calling for him to not be captain but seeing that did boil my blood quite a bit.
Billy Smith has been much hyped on this forum but I am yet to see any of this so called potential. He has to show something soon or has to go, seeing as we have a genuine superstar in sualii returning this week.
keary needs a bigger kick for me, or needs to be more tactical because I didn’t see any issues with the Rabbitohs returning which is something u do see with bigger kickers like Clifford or tactical ones like Cronk.
Collins... what do I say. That acl must have really messed with him, because he went from a form prop in the league to a bitter finger hothead. Needs a trip to the bench or the bears to rediscover the form.
drew Hutchinson, seriously at hooker. Just passing, no threat out of hooker. Keighran, marschke or lussick needs to come in if u want to keep going with this Watson experiment.

As a team I see a few problems.
    1. we need a goalkicker, because walker is still a while off being a proper one
    2. As much as I disagree with this statement as a whole, we do need a little size. For me we don’t have a player that really strikes fear into the opponent. Jwh used to be that, and while he’s still a very good prop, hea not that anymore. We need a David fifita, Payne has, taumalolo type player. I think Tuku should be groomed for that and that needs to start this season, imminently for me.
    3. Errors. Knock ons killed us that game and I noticed that this season we have been forcing 50/50 passes which haven’t worked at all. We need to go back to our bread and butter.
    4. Unrelated to the team but how bad was atkins and the refs this season as a whole. I haven’t seen such blatant bias against the roosters ever. Klein and Sutton were horrible but Atkins was a different level today. 6 again every set for the Rabbitohs and how was Milne not sent off. U don’t want to give a penalty try fine but manu scores of not for that. Just ridiculous

    Billy Smith: Cut
Toupanua’s edge defence .. Still terrible
Crichton: Not the guy who rampaged at South’s.. Too much, Cut next year
Teddy: Wasn’t a team player, will learn from it
    Radley: Isn’t anywhere near Murray.
    JWH: Slow

    Robinson: Cannot beat Souths.

I think the last few years with all the injuries have given us false hope for when we got a healthy team back on the park. I think we just expected to be great again.

boyd, bmoz, friend,Liu,Cronk,Latrell have not been replaced, by anyone better or close to their equals, and age is catching up with a couple of the players as well as recovering from major injuries.

season is young, but I worry every time our halves get the ball that they are gonna get crunched, I think plenty of spots are up for grabs still, Center, wing, hooker,2nd row and prop.

just need to keep beating the poorer teams until the ideal team is found.

Crichton is unfit and over weight for the NRL. Too many lattes.

Good news, everyone! Come Origin time, we won't be losing many players! At least those who go on about the salary sombrero won't be able to go on about all our rep players!
We needed to buy a gun forward or two in the off-season. We've lost a few over the past two seasons and doesn't look like they've been replaced. Is Atoni any good?
Who is that guy out there that looks like Angus Crichton? He needs to get familiar with the cricket pitch in the middle of North Sydney Oval!
There were occasions when Walker kicked on 3rd or 4th tackle when we had an overlap!
So much dropped ball again! Stupid, stupid passes! No patience at all!
            Penalties! Penalties! Penalties!
A spot needs to be found for our best goal-kicker - Keighran. I'd put him in for Billy Smith until Suaalii is ready. He did well last year in the centres.

Plus, I got a fine in the mail today for doing 48km/ph in a school zone in Bunnerong Road in the heart of South Sydney territory near their new multi-million dollar preening room and training facility! No flashing sign anywhere!

            (Rant ends).

Why all this $hitbagging on Billy Smith. Not affraid to roll up the sleves. Ran well. Smart footballer. Just needs more time on the field.3rd most meters. 87%tackle effeciency.

Bit of mystery to me, probably from the depths of despair, when chookies lose. Billy smith will be a very good player for us-couple of kilos, and we'll talk about of him as we did Mullens, all those years ago.

I’ve stood next to Smith. Believe me he’s doesn’t need more weight. He’s a good size for an outside back.

People on here are so fickle. If he had scored a try just from being in the right place at the right time, everyone on here would be banging on about how good he was.

100% agree thought he went well. Wouldn't hurt the boys to have a week on discipline and respecting possession, we gifted the ball to souths way way too often.

100%. Billy is a big strong thing enough already. Just needs to learn to channel that power like Toups does.

when he debuted robbo described smith as a centre but i like him as a winger - big and strong, able to take carries off our line. but he does need to keep on improving.
yeah, i thought momo played his best game for us this year,
yep, teddy might have played his worst game for us but even so he did a lot of good things. he's a special player and a good captain to boot.
                          manu is a real weapon.
sammy walker continues to impress - his defence is pretty good but he needs to be careful about getting off the line too quickly and getting isolated.
didn't have the tape measure out but i thought keary's length in kicks was okay, an improvement on what we had last year. he always looks dangerous with ball in hand and will win us a lot of games this year. it's good to have him back.
the big issue last night was too many errors, esp going for the low percentage plays in attack and giving away dumb penalties and we didn't have the defensive competence to make up for that.

Unfortunately the game was initially created by how it was refereed. The First 25 minutes the flow of penalties and 6 against starved the roosters of possession. One of the first times we got the ball we put on a great try. Lots of penalties and 6 agains against us led to the players playing desperate football...as Robbo said without patience. That led to the mistakes but it was a consequence of the former. It also coincided with Teddy making uncharacteristic mistakes...led to try and Rads who rarely missing a tackle being brushed by Murray for a try. Also the absence of JWH as enforcer from the field isn't working..... Finally Sitili can't defend next to Sam...it needs to be Rads....better times will evolve. With all the quality retirees from the squad it's going to be harder and take longer to overcome lack of possession.....

Thanks for the rants all as it saves me from ranting about much the same things. It seems I have to lower my expectations of this team for the moment. The biggest disappointment for me this year is Crichton - perhaps he should have kept the man bun to keep his power a la Sampson?
