  • Bloke in a bar Ryan Matterson

Just listened to this podcast from April 2021.
Highly recommend with so much Rooster content.
Matterson comes across well, and heaps praise upon praise on the club, culture, coach etc.
At time of recording said he still speaks to Robbo.

He only wishes he never left. Chasing the dollars has cost him big time. He’s from the Ivan Cleary school of loyalty.

        Whats happening with him?
Is he playing at Parra next year?
Is he resting at the moment due to head knocks?

Ain't that interesting hey! Will have to have a listen.

Is it just me or does Robbo keep in touch with EVERYBODY and keep working the wheels behind the scenes (that or he's simply helping people out by being a friend).

Makes me laugh when random middle managers say they're too busy to talk to people. I get the feeling that Robbo's the kinda guy who will always find 10 minutes for you so long as you're fair dinkum.

On a recent drive to the Gold Coast I saw the two of them together at the Taree service centre. They were eating KFC.

I don't think it was money that motivated him. He wanted to be a starter and cement an actual position and was encouraged by Robbo to do so. Once they signed Angus he knew he had to move to be that person. I always thought we could have kept him rather than sign Angus...better value.

PS - I've been drinking Cattleman's Lager instead of BLOKE recently. Love the guy's podcast (and it's a decent brew) but I feel a stronger connection with Moz' brand.

Asahi Super Dry's not bad either. I know it's a pilsner, but it's pretty cheap down at my local shops (always on special) and there's a lot of nostalgia behind it. Two quick stories because Voodoo Man loves my longwinded stories long time:

                          - When I lived in Japan, you could see the Asahi headquarters from my apartment (well... the roof, which we'd see by climbing up the outside fire stairs with the guys/gals from the 7-Eleven across the road, then knock back some beers). Note to Fergo, instead of laying concrete with Duges, you coulda been doing that too! (IMO it's like their couch on the roof trick, but done properly).

                          - During my last night in Tokyo (before I moved to a country town), my boss told me he'd pay for my drinks + meal if I skulled 10 (tap Asahi Super Dry) beers in a row. Always the competitive one, I took on the challenge and did it. After a few hours of karaoke (and more drinks - Rads style b-b-andmore-b) somebody shepherded me to the last train. I got on, an old salaryman woke me up at my stop and then station attendant pushed me in the direction of my apartment. I got home, slept and had a pretty rough time packing/moving all of my worldly belongings to the country (3 hour train trip) the next day (which took 7 hours because I got lost and kept falling asleep on the train). At lunchtime a Welsh dude at the first train station forced me to drink a beer with him. While my other Asahi Super Dry's were pretty crisp, even the faintest smell of this one made me wanna gag. I downed two, but jeez... was off the beers for a while after that.

Hard to blame him. Most of us can relate to taking jobs for the money.

Born and bred in the eastern suburbs.
