  • The SBW Effect

What is clear is that Sonny is in the twilight of a glittering career. At his age, he isn’t expected to break open games through his power.

In 2013 when he came in at the start of Trents reign, there was softness creeping into the Chooks game. He fixed that.

This time, I believe our culture is strong and doesn’t need changing, however we have won two comps in a row and we need a sprinkling of magic dust to win a third successive comp. This is what Sonny adds.

Ever since the announcement of his return, our pack, especially our backrowers, has stepped up. Even before his return game! I believe he wouldn’t even need to play, just being at training would be enough.

This is what I call the SBW Effect. A superstar joins your work, in your position and you start playing closer to your potential than you were a few weeks ago. $150k very well spent.

    Carn Easts!

    Very well said skeez mate.
There was an article in one of the weekends papers where he reflected on his entire career, a lot of detail, names clubs, even childhood memories, which is something you only read in ones retirement week. But I can't see him going anywhere and leaving us anytime soon, playing or otherwise.

Ever since the threat of missing out on the Top 4...we stopped playing touch football.

Yeah, dead right. New blood alters the chemistry in a positive way. Even when a team wins a grand final, they need new blood the next season to stave off complacency and lack of hunger. Last year we added Morris and Crichton to the mix. It was essential to add more new blood this season -- JMoz, Flanagan and now SBW.

it seems like he's just a really humble, honest guy. having him for the rest of the comp will help.

After seven years, there probably isn’t much that Trent hasn’t said or tried. Fitzy has been there and may have a bigger responsibility from what I’ve seen in the sheds. Having Cheika now gives another newer voice. And now Sonny, a superstar in the playing ranks.

Our club gets it. Hopefully it all pays off

Robbo says that no one season is ever the same, nor the path taken to get to premiership glory. Obviously, that is manifesting itself differently again this season with SBW, Cheika, JMorris replacing Latrell, etc. New life breeds new hope, and I am all for what Robbo and the staff are doing.

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

New blood definitely gives us a new buzz. Keeps things from going stale.

Robbo is such an innovator as well bringing someone like Cheika into the fold, initially I couldnt work out why, but Robbo has always been interested in learning from different codes, btw successfuul coaching across codes shares some common traits, although as Wallabies coach his record wasnt that great but the cattle the Wobblies have is not exactly anywhere near the talent at the disposal of the All Blacks and other strong rugby nations.....

SBW is giving everyone an extra lift off and on the field, love what he is bringing.......

I agree on the new blood.

I don't think there will be any new blood next season and I also think we will win our fourth in a row then.

On SBW I have watched his stint half a dozen times and enjoyed it more each time. Can't get enough of it and can't wait to see what he does this week.

What a coup to get him.

We are living in once in a lifetime roosters times.

Did you notice SBW robbed of a try under the sticks when Freddy hogged the ball? It was during the same set Teddy scored his 2nd try.

A video breakdown of Sonny and how he plays by Billy Slater.

It is telling as it’ll likely be the way the Storms will view Sonnys play. Interesting that Billy also sees that Sonny is passing more than he’s ever seen him pass. Which is where I’d like Sonny to dummy and run as teams are aware of his likely link pass

A great break down of how influential Sonny is. In his 80 minutes he’s already set up a few.

                            Suddenly I don’t mind Billy.

I’m so glad I got to see Billy Slater play & I was so glad he played in the 2018 GF. Set the bench mark for the modern day fullback. I’m also very glad I’m around to see SBW another one that just makes you want to watch Rugby League.
