One thing is for sure - unless we sort out that lock position, Friend will continue making 50 tackles a game taking away from his attacking game.
Thats what was disappointing last year - he has so much to offer in attack especially in the back end of each half but he is too buggered from tackling his heart out to do anything

Just on the uncommon selections

FPN - He's a senior player now and very popular amongst the playing group, time for him to step up and use his influence.I think he's been a victim of his own versatility, his ability to play anywhere in the forward pack and play many different roles has probably resulted in some inconsistent performances. I think he deserves the shot at a permanent and more senior role in the team.

Hargreaves - He struggles at time playing in tight not for a lack of trying though, he's got very good leg speed, late foot work and reads the game quite well. At lock he'll be able to run wide either side of the ruck whilst still doing the dirty work down the middle when it's needed. He's got a tremendous workrate that we haven't seen yet. Jack Gibson always said defend smartly, attack aggressively... this sums up JWH perfectly, if he does this imo he has the potential to be one of the best locks going round for the next 10 years.

Tasi - Still young, still inexperienced. Development and growth is all about taking small steps. Last year he played reserves and got half a dozen games, this year he'll play off the bench and start the odd game. Talent will never be this guys downfall but progressing too fast might be, there's no rush and there's no reason why he can't play long minutes off the bench. Starting is the next step after having a full season in first grade.

Dumbrell - Perfect impact player, great defence so we loose nothing there and a very good running game. Service games is also solid... He's just got more to his game than Mortimer or Mitchell.
Dumbrell? Hopefully he is good enough for the step to nrl in 2012 and can handle it, I doubt he will be in our pack @ the start of the season though.Mitchell is potentially a great 9 or 7 and has already played some good footy @ nrl level, hence his selection in the all stars team.

If things go to plan, sounds like Bosden will be an major cog in our 2012 pack.

Far out some of you have unrealistic expectations of some of our inexperienced young blokes, especially forwards. Guys like Dumbrell and Bosden will more than likely need the majority of the season playing for Newtown before they are ready for the week to week grind of the NRL.

Let them actually earn their position in the side. And if it means they spend a year playing for Newtown, so be it. If they are as good as what they are touted to be, they will come into consideration when they are mentally and physically ready for it.

So long as FPN is not there. The team will be better off.

It's not that hard to make the Indigenous All Stars team. The likes of Ben Jones and Travis Waddell have made that team. I do like Mitchell I think he has a lot of talent.

I agree. We need at least one mongrel in the backrow.

Geez - I hope Mr.Kennedy lives up to the massive expectations we all have of him...

Has he played 20 games of first grade yet?

They are a long way from being one of the dominant packs in the comp.

For the most part, they played like cream puffs last year & that's the recent history so that's all that matters
I agree. It's like Chinese whispers. The initial talk is about potential, which there is no doubting. However, somewhere over the course of the offseason potential becomes ability, and then turns our pack into a dominant force.

JWH, a 22 year old, would have to be classified as a forward leader in our team. He has played 40 games. I am confident our pack will have some outstanding games, but week in week out, for a whole season will be difficult.

2012 will be an interesting one for FPN. He is one of our more experience players, and they often talk about Islanders taking longer to develop across an entire 80 minutes. At 90 odd games, I don't think he will be able to use that excuse in 2013.

Can someone do a list of our current squad with the amount of NRL games played as well as players age?

Maybe TheMack or Wall-E...

Thanks..

12. Fpn / aubasson
13. JWH

14. Mitchell
15. Fpn / aubasson
16. Cordner
17. Mose

I think the roosters need a tony Williams type super sub, I've nominated either fpn or aubasson..
Yeah Mose is dynamic when he comes on but I mean a back rower thats gonna run into holes with speed and power with a good offload.. I think if cherrington comes good with injuries he could be the perfect super sub in that mold, I also think bosden could fill that position off the bench from what I have seen he can be explosive..

I really can't wait for the season to start and to see what smith is thinking and planning for how the team is gonna look
