  • Does Gerard Sutton scare you?

He must be a rugby union ref fan, cos he just wants to get amongst it and become the 27th player.

Stay out of it, unless you absolutely have to intervene.

Yeah, and he wasn’t too bad if I’m honest. Maybe he just hates Manly.

Penalties to Vermin 9-3 last night. I'm pretty sure Manly led 3-2 at one stage during the first half. 7 straight penalties to nil for the second half …..nice leg up !

Not even 2 minutes before Jake T got dudded, Cody Walker tackled Garrick in their 20. Walker holds Garrick down by his legs, then lies on top of him and as he is being to to release, Walker gets up and walks away above Garricks head while Garrick is trying to get up which forces him to fall forward, referees blows his whistle and tells Garrick to drop back and play the ball...FFS! Manly got penalised for something less than that.

Last week Verrils got done for holding down a souths player in their 40. After they completed their 5 tackles and put a bomb to BMoz which he catches and then gets tackled by Roberts. Roberts tries to strip the ball and then has a bit of a wrestle with Morris after he is tackle and is about to play the ball and he trips on Roberts leg and falls forward...Refs: No penalty but asks Morris to drop back to the mark and play the ball...What does it take for souths to be penalised?

I am in no way a manly sympathiser, but Des Hasler has to ask the NRL who out of the officials didn't see what happened in this incident. We have left a rules-based game behind when we let that go. If the attention span of the officials is so short, that should be it for them for the year — time for an annual holiday.

The sin bin for Jake was very harsh. Are we going to have a situation when a defending player takes a player out after a line break when chasing an attacking kick, will they be sin-binned, is every support player that is taken out - sin-binned, short kick through close to the line taken out - sin-binned.

I thought this decision unfairly ruined a great contest.

I hope the NRL marketing for the finals "its anyone game" is seeing any evening up in games. I couldn't see the ill-disciplined 7-0 penalties against and two sin bins Manly. One was justified. The second Jake's didn't show any clear intent of dragging the attacking player down he was trying to get around him.

Yeah that was so obvious. Cody Walker had to roll to his left or right once the tackle was complete- instead he tried to climb over Garrick to marker- its not a 50/50 call its a straight out easy penalty and the ref was right in front of it.- you cant go through the ruck to marker. Calling Garrick to go back and play the ball on the mark was ludicrous.

Manly couldn't buy a penalty. With 6 minutes to go Souths have 2 markers side by side right in front of Sutton and he doesn't blow a penalty and Dylan Walker spills the ball. Instead of being in Souths quarter they are defending their own-massive turnaround. How can you miss something so obvious???

Ashley Klein is the one to worry about. He’s good for 15+ penalties a match.

What I dont get about others who watch the game but pick up on all the refs mistakes or calls that you dont agree with is why you dont factor in that things are happening very quickly during a game & that refs cannot see every split second incident & they have to make maybe 300 400 600 or more split second decisions. If you thought about your own day to day job I doubt any of us on here would be making so many decisions over the same time period.

Realistically the refs could blow up to 150 or more penalties a game because players are coached to break the rules so the refs in any split second make a decisions on what they penalise, what makes things worse is when you have 2, 3, 4, or thousands of people watching a person making multiple decisions that you will get multiple opinions on the incident. Its a lose lose for the refs.

Mickie Lane I get that but some seem like they don’t get the flow of the game and pull the game up too much. And given G Sutton’s lofty position, he scares me.

                      Just a little.

I also don’t like how much he talks. Likes the sound of his own voice.

Thats my point you think that but others dont. They cant win.
In the history of the game there hasn't been one game that hasn't had a controversial refs call.

I don't buy into the crap that is the ref should stay out of it. the ref should lay down the law early and that will set a good platform for the teams to stop the crap.
Last night the problem was Sutton didn't blow his whistle, there were so many penalties that Manly should have received it was a farce

I hear what your saying but if Des Hasler you got to ask how Jake T gets a sin bin yet something like this with an attacking player taken out right in front of the touch judge without the ball and its not even a penalty. It would be hard to swallow when you only got 3 penalties the whole night.

If that’s the case, are the refs gonna blow a penalty just to set the tone? Bloody hope not!

They probably need a gesture for play on so everyone knows
