  • Signing Mortimer is.....

the only master stroke this club has had for 5 years.

I believe if ...IF we have signed this kid, we will transform him into a top class first grade halfback. Pearce will slide into his rightful position at 5/8 and Anasta will retire to the back row and then to life after footy - quick smart.

Unlike the general consensus, i believe the Mortimer kid has been severely mismanaged. By his team and coaches.

I may be the only one, but i think we have the right mix to get the best out of Mortimer in Smith, Taylor and now Elliot.

Fire up Easts. If weve signed him, walk the walk and get him into mental shape to prove everyone wrong. Funny things happen to players who leave Parramatta....look at Inu and Mateo.
Alcohol never solved any life problems.....then again neither did milk.

Can't agree. He lacks some really basic skills. His kicking game and passing game are deplorable

Running game is decent.. but does not have the suitable attributes to be a fine, confident and controlling pivot - See his first season in the NRL. His success came not from his playmaking, but simply his support play to linebreaks created by other players.

What use is that if we can't break the line in the first place?

I hope you're right... but i don't see it. Not in a million years

...going some way to ameliorating tossing Todd Carney away like a used tampon.

You described what Carntey offered mate.

Pearce and Bwaiff to act as ballplayers and Mortimer to support those two with pace.

It may not work. But I don't see there are any other options out there, besides Carntey.

One thing you missed is he should be pumped to prove Watsa wrong. It's usually a very motivating factor in a players form, as we saw with Carntey last year.

Did i really? Carney's passing and kicking game was far from cap.

Carney made plenty of linebreaks and try scoring opportunities off his running, but also had a phenomenal bullet pass close to the line when it mattered.. leading to 22 try assists in 2010. I still have plenty of visions last year when Carney was fit and was throwing plenty of bullets out to SKD.

Mortimer? Can't see him doing that

Mortimer's passing game = non existant. He really cannot spiral a ball. He cannot kick

He is just another nuffy living off his surname.

                It's a terrible signing.

I wonder what our 2013 coach would think of inheriting this player.

If Mortimer is a linebreaker then that's the most important thing. It's something that's either in your game or isn't, Kicking and passing can be taught so if Mortimer can do that I'm happy.

Any chance of you sharing who that might be Fred?

Ray makes a very good point, kicking and passing comes from training, it's teachable.

Instinct to run the footy, that's something you either have or don't. Speed is the same.

I believe that's what we lack, someone taking the ball to the line, or hitting a nice ball and clapping it on thru a gap.

I don't believe he is a Carntey, but he offers some of what Carntey offered.

I refuse to bag 1st graders, especially those who've played in a GF. My old man told me years ago don't bag those who've done what you couldn't.

From memory the kid burst onto the scene and had a great run in a very good team on a roll. He must've played some part in that run, every player contributes when you make a GF.

If his attitudes right and he fits into the team we may have pulled off a good signing. That's IF he even signs.

The problem is that Mortimer has the same pace as his old man.. Even worse is the suggestion that Anasta retire to the back row. We saw what happened when he played there this year. We were effectively playing one forward short..
