  • Our back line

Everyone on here has been saying how good our forward pack is and bagging out our back line. I reckon our back line is almost as good as our forward pack. If it looks something like this then I see no reason why we can't win the comp next year.

    1. Mini (on his day has good kick returns, able to break the line and brings good experience in the backs).
    2. Perrett (good speed, nice hit ups and good in the air).
    3. Moga (good speed, slices effortlessly through the line and really powerful).
    4. SKD (with the ball in hand and not on the ground he's one of if not the most dangerous players in the NRL, able to create something out of nothing eg. the try going into half time last year against the sea eagles, the try against the first tigers game this year...).
    5. Leilua (great finishing ability in the air and in the corner, breaks the line easily on kick returns and has quite a bit of speed).
    6. Anasta (great captain, can take on small halves and break the line, can catch pearces bombs well and good passing game).
    7. Pearce (hasn't been the greatest this year but I heard he was struggling with some injury. At his best he can break the line with ease, has an amazing kicking game and great passing game.

Even though I reckon this will be the back line next year I'd prefer it to be more like this: Perrett/Tagive, Perrett/Tagive, Moga, SKD, Leilua, Anasta, Pearce. I'm happy with Anasta but Mini is just losing it.

They are not too bad (apart from Mini) but there is no depth and Braith is not creative enough ( and too hit and miss) to be a top line five-eigth.

You can't write that about Moga, he hasn't played first grade, and anasta can't break the line, he only had about 2 or 3 linebreaks this season.

Mini hasn't had one of 'his days' since 2004!

To be honest, I agree with only SKD and Perrett.

Minichiello - on his day, is a great player. The last time he had his day was probably 2005.

Moga - has never played first grade, and is seventeen years old.

Leilua - is slow, and out of position, despite all his footballing talent.

Anasta - is a very, very ordinary five eighth, with a bomb and a short side rush.

Pearce - lacks creativity, plays well with structure, which Smith seems intent on not implementing.

Acknowledging that we are still hamstrung by having to select Minichiello and Anasta simply because they're there, I'd have:

          1. Minichiello - I'd much rather Pritchard
          2. Perrett
          3. Leilua
          4. SKD
          5. Moga/Tagive
          6. Anasta - I'd much rather Lazarus
          7. Pearce

when anasta takes on a small half like chris sandow more often than not he comes out the other side. Also, there's enough depth: centre; Carney, BJ in centre and Tagive on the wing, Backrowers (this would be good as we have so many talented backrowers not able to get a spot in the starting side). Fullback/Wing; Tagive, Alofa, O'sullivan, Wells, Moga... you don't need a great winger, just one that can catch, run and ground the ball. Halves; Lazarus, Littlejohn, Jacks.

I'll admit that we could use some more depth but if we're relatively injury free we should have a great back line.

You don't need a great winger?

              It certainly helps.

Last time we had a great winger we won a comp!

That is complete rubbish. How many linebreaks did Braith make this year?

Carney is shit. Alofa, O'Sullivan, Wells and even Moga HAVE NEVER EVEN PLAYED RESERVE GRADE. Ditto Littlejohn and Jacks. It is very, very doubtful that they'd be ready for the physicality of top flight NRL.

The only real depth we have out wide is Sam Latu, who is strong with a decent turn of speed, and has actually played top grade before.

I'd take Michael Lett back right now to play fullback. He's killing it!!

                    1. Mini
                    2. Perrett
                    3.BJ
                    4.SKD
                    5. Moga

If mini wasn't my favourite player....

                    1. Perrett
                    2. Tagive
                    3. moga
                    4. SKD
                    5. BJ

Another bonehead decision by our recruitment team.

We have Henry, Tupou and Tagive who are all specialist wingers coming in along side Latu, we have enough depth on the wings and centres.
Halves and fullback is our problem..

Tupou looks pretty average from what I've seen.

Watch out, the Cowboys and Warriors 191cm 110kgs and 199cm 118kgs centres and wingers in the Toyota Cup GF today are coming to get first grade.

Don't have anyone in the centres and on the wings to tackle them, it's no wins for opposing teams.
