He had his Abott and Costello moment with Maubs...idiotic stuff up

We can't win the Premiership with Matto at 5/8!

      Our attack has no flow.

Once keary went down, everybody knew if he doesn’t comeback we were no chance of winning the GF.

luckily we keep playing SOS on the bench with no game time, so if he does by some miracle have to come on and replace Cronk, there will be a scapegoat because he didn’t have enough game time to gel with the team.

Yes I can just see the thread ‘SOS is useles’. The guy hasn’t played a game for at least 3 weeks and now has to step up?

Correct. If he is not used, he is of no use, therefore useless.

I'm all confused... Perhaps the thread title might b 'SOS is MIA'.

Maybe he’s a real character and good for team morale and his contribution is more mental rather than physical.

As for Matterson, he isn’t useless. Just very average at 5/8.

Its just that he keeps our defensive structure as similar to what the players either side of him can trust.

The irony is that he hardly makes a break because he doesn't have the speed to be a 5/8 at this level BUT when he did and there was a try available, he stuffed it up by passing it. Maybe he was shocked he was able to do that and hit the panic button.

I don't get why everyone keeps saying he's there for defence. He plants his feet and is very slow and lazy. Countless tries and breaks have been his fault, including the one yesterday. He even struggles being the 3rd man in sometimes. He just grabs and more often than not misses

You gotta let it go mate, players miss tackles, it’s not a new thing.

Imagine how many that kid would have missed? He’d have been ruined on the line with those monsters lining up on him.

Serioulsy the new scapegoat has arrived.

                        The fill in man.

                        You blokes are hilarious.

It’s all been coached out of him. Poor fella.

I think you're on the money with that. When Matterson made his debut on Anazac Day 2016 he was the best player on the ground for us at five eighth. His kicking and his try put us back in the contest. That came on top of a MOM performance in his debut for us for Wyong after he broke his ankle pre-season. But after the St George game, Trent was only giving him 5 minutes off the bench until Freddy picked him for City against Country.

Again in his representative debut Matterson was City's best player and brought them back into the game with an intercept, pus scoring a try of his own. When he returned he was again back on the bench and used as a replacement on the wing, in the centres, and eventually forwards. He shifted permanently to second row for the 2017 and bulked up another 10 kg. He sacrificed some pace with that although he was always a big kid playing in the halves.

Jack's Fur Coat said earlier he had a good game. Matterson was stopping thoise big Canberra forwards as well as anyone. Comments that he just grabs are way off the mark. He also stopped BJ in goal and generally shut him down. It's easy to pick on one or two errors (even Radley made those) but in the big picture he plays a big role in our defensive plans. A lot of footy has been coached out of Matto and he did look tentative in attack and put one kick out to Perth. My only criticism is that he should run more aggressively and take on the defence but I've no doubt he is playing to plan and sometimes not what is in front of him.
