However your claim that the salary cap had something to do with the Dogs not signing Tedesco is just another of your MADE UP BS. They had no salary cap issues at the time.In the end he chose the Roosters because it was a better fit for him. The Dogs never pulled out of the race to sign him and were bitterly disappointed when he didnt sign with them. Ron Jones was the reason Uncle Nick has the base for success as you put it - Jones took over a club that was bound for bankruptcy and turned it around to be one of the most financial and well run clubs in the industry including turning around the fortunes of the associated football club as well - People don't remember such facts- only who is running the organisation know as history is overlooked and forgotten under the now time brigade.

Cronk should have hung up his boots in 2017 then -playing on is often not the right option as he is sadly finding out - a season too long and he has another one to go too- Tedesco may have starred at the Tigers but as you know they only won 7 games last year and now much much more is expected of him at the Chooks were he is not producing- Gordon fitted in like he played here all the time despite his age including winning plenty of games for the chooks in the process.

Tedesco was heading to the Dogs until matters took another course - salary cap issues which are ongoing at that club.

There is no doubt that Gussy saved the club from demotion taking over in late 1994 an absolute basket case of a club- very few players were retained at the end of 1994 and Gus had to build a new team and club - I know I was there at the home games one of very very very few during 1994 where winning the toss was a celebration - were you?? - just missed the finals in 1995 and of course no Gus no Fittler and many many many others and we made the finals from 1996 up to the decision of reducing the comp to 14 at the end of 1999 - we could not be kicked out then being finalist all those year which was one of the criteria`s for inclusion or exclusion for the 2000 season

Gussy`s clean out of the club was the biggest of any sporting club in Australia - I recall only Luke Ricketson/ Craig Salvotori/ Jamie Shepherd (although he signed with North Sydney under the transfer set up at the time) and Rod Silva being retained - so he had to build a team/club from virtually scratch for the 1995 season.

Silly comments again as you like others were rejoicing about the easy draw and big wins which haven't eventuated have they - one has to say recruitment and retention has been a major issue for years at the Chooks being a recruitment club instead of a development one - Uncle Nick decides who is signed /who goes/who coaches etc - that cannot happen anymore - Uncle Nick runs the whole operation(leagues club/football club etc) the same as the much maligned by many on here Ron Jones did in relation to who is signed / who isn't and who coaches etc the football side of things - Both Ron Jones and Uncle Nick have been great for the club especially Ron Jones- virtually the same type of people in that regards.

As for Ron Jones you have conveniently overlooked the part in your obituary link that read "The final controversy came with his decision to resign after the Licensing Court examined the club's finances". Yep if you call resigning being escorted out of the club. He may have helped build Easts Leagues but he also was caught red handed fleecing it too. His recognition for what he achieved for the club came in the form of the board at the time not taking his shonky dealings to higher authorities, otherwise he would have been spending a few years in Long Bay. Ron also was in charge when Bob Fulton went back to Manly with a host of our stars. He was also in charge when he went on holidays and allowed Ron Gibbs to leave. He signed a whole heap of rubbish from Wests and Sharks and appointed Laurie Freier as coach. In fact while he was busy lining his own pockets his failings in the 80s set the club back 20 years.
Now you would think a man who took the club from the doldrums to a financial success would have some recognition from the club.....an award, a plaque....something anything.
