  • Has Uncle Nick made a blue??

All know that Uncle Nick is Roosters down to his shoelaces - Although he has made a blue in signing Cronk which ultimately forced Pearce out of the club. Cronk in my mind has been made to look better that he really is in relation to the calibre of player he played with at the Storm/ Queensland and Australia over his career to date. - Yes he is a good player although not a great player and unfortunately not the buy the Roosters have expected him to be (Ditto with Tedesco as well)- Maybe another Rocky Laurie signing scenario these two?.

The Pearce and Keary half combo worked from day one basically - Keary I feel now doesn't know what his role is with Cronk as half - Is he a runner or organiser or both - He knew exactly what is role was with Pearce as his half partner though.- A ball runner

The Roosters had 1 mill or so in the cap to spend for the 2018 season and this money would have been better spent on a NRL standard prop and centre and retaining Pearce as the half instead. One could understand the signing of Tedesco when Gordon might retire although he re-signed ( later released to the Titans) - Tedesco is doing nothing that Gordon didn't/couldn't do and in fact Gordon was more productive at FB than Tedesco has been so far too.

If you ever met Uncle Nick at a Roosters game/function and he asked you about your thoughts on the signings of Cronk and Tedesco what would you tell him ? Including whether keeping Pearce and Gordon was a better option and or a NRL Prop and Centre should have been signed instead of Cronk etc ?

    I'll go further Salvo.
What about the form of James Maloney & Roger Tuivisa-Sheck - we let them go !!!
One 'cos he wanted a longer contract & the other ?, more money, go home, who knows but I have thoughts about our inflexibility.
Anyway we had 2 halfbacks & 'ditched' both & the best full back in the game.
I know it's all spilt milk but the loss of Peter O'Sullivan may also be having a bigger effect than anticipated.

I didnt think we ever had Billy Slater lol, but I dig what you are saying.

Jimmy Maloney going was the worst ever decision made by Politis imo. He is killing it at the Riff now plus the near certainty of 6 points everytime we score a try. No half/5/8th takes on the line quite like him and still has a passing game to boot as well....

I would say that Hastings was the worst decision which lead to the letting go of Maloney. The club would not have taken a second look at Jackson if he wasn't named Hastings and because of banking on him to turn out like his old man we have seriously been set back a long time.

Pearce and Maloney was a better combination than Pearce and Carney (mostly because Maloney isn't a dickhead like Carney was) plus they complimented each other's style so well and after 3 successful seasons playing together it was thrown away and now 3 years later neither of Pearce. Maloney or Hastings are here and it was all for nothing. Pearce and Maloney might not have the prestige of some other big name halves combinations but that was a premiership winning pairing that we could have had for another 5 or so years.

I'm happy with the Maloney for Keary trade off as Keary is 4-5 years younger. It wasn't the plan but it worked out well.

And only a gronk would suggest signing Teddy was a mistake. He's one of the league's elite players and in his prime. He's getting better every week and will be a gun for years to come. Teddy is a MASSIVE upgrade on a 34yr old Gordon.

I dont understand the Teddy hate around here by some people... he has been constantly our most dangerous player on the field and even though he hasnt been scoring you can still see the class he has... even with 4 guys infront of him he manages to step around and make extra yards... its like some of you think unless he is scoring a try or 2 a game then he is a dud.... NEWSFLASH the team hasnt given him oppotunites... the breaks he has made have been of HIS creation... Cronk on the other hand hasnt been good since the Knights game... Teddy is doing just fine.

The only error was letting Watson go,we could really use his spark right now..

                  Bad losses.
                  1. Rts
                  2. Maloney - we kept the wrong half

bad decision but no other option at the time
                  1. Friend to captain role

                  thoughts on backs.
                  1. Give them time
                  2. Prob is slow delivery from DH, no running from DH, no offloads to exploit, poor form in attack from Napa in particular

                  recruitment
yes please to a big bopper with line speed

n.b. Easy to look at errors retrospectively Maloney was clear error at time. I think RTS surprised us all

                    Fark NO........Wake the Fark up
i blame the forwards esp Cordner, Napa, & JWH (even Liu has been more down than up).
i blame Jake.......he should be on the bench or 18th man.
I still don't understand Robbo's use of the interchange and Friend love (unless it's true that Politis is a staunch supporter of mighty Jake).
Teddy is great, Cronk spent 14 yrs in a great system, with a great coach, and 2 of the world’s best players. It was always going to take us time to gel, especially Cronk, Remember we had the preseason from HELL, with Teddy, Cronk, Keary, JWH, SST, Toups, Fergo, Cordner, and others out due to World Cup and//or injury. Gordon admitted he could not have played another year at fullback playing the Roosters style. RTS can go Fark himself.
Maloney was our biggest loss. But nobody could have predicted the Hastings fiasco.
Reminder Champ: how did you feel after the PF loss to the Cowboys and 2015 loss to Brisbane and Melbourne, and 2014 to Penwiff and Souffs. Furthermore, last year we would have lost to Brisbane if not for Latrell.
                    Something had to be done.
personally I will never get over the loss to the cows last year. Ever.

Now the team and coach(es) need to improve and perform under extreme pressure..........This is what has me most concerned.

Did you miss Coopers game against the Sharks? He took control and shut it down-exactly what he was bought for. He would have been hailed a hero against Sants if that call on Macdonald was correctly called a no try and the Roosters made a comeback.

Yes Tedesco has been way off his best and will probably lose the NSW fullback spot to Turbo Tom .....but its early days and he will return to his best. I like the way that he is still busting a nut despite things not going his way.

Alot of this thread is about players who left and kicked on and players purchased who haven't lived up to reputations......but thats easy after the event. I mean no one has mentioned RTS because until this year his form has been rubbish last 2 seasons. Mitchell Pearce's inability to perform come semi finals in 2014,15 ,17 & rep footy ( as well as his off field brain snaps) made him a easy target for Roosters supporters, yet after showing great form for the Knights in 7 games has everyone asking why was he allowed to leave.

Retention and buying of players is bloody hard and unless you at least make a grand final then you have failed.

So i ask you all, who would you release out of the current team and from players that are off contract at other clubs who would you buy???

Probably because he hasn’t risen to the heights that he showed at the Tigers. The opportunities that you say hasn’t been given, well the Tigers were crap last year so it was mainly up to him to spark something and usually found the room to make breaks many times. He should be able to find breaks with us too but I’m thinking that at the Tigers he was a leader where as here he’s trying to find his place in the team and doesn’t want to step on anyone’s shoes. I feel he’s lacking confidence as he settles with the expectations of the club, fans and the other players. I have faith in him in the long run.

The 'elite' forwards are not putting in. Cordner looks finished and done at 25. Napa is a three game wonder and JWH is retired on the job. Swap the three of them for Collins, Butcher and not Silly. Tetavano and SST as the starting forwards.

The second paragraph is simply spot on. To add to that, I have no doubt we would have won another premiership with that combination.

so unless he throws us on his back and carrys our ass like he did at tigers then its considered an average performance? i would assume the reason he hasnt done that is because he has been told not to... at tigers the plan was "give it to teddy!" but with us he has been placed in a role and a job... he isnt the only weapon we have so the world doesnt revolve around him anymore... like i said i think he has been solid and dangerous in almost every game... not to mention he is the only guy on the field who seems to find holes in the defense.
