  • Reality Check

So we are not the team we thought we were gonna be. We had the expectation that we would win by 30 today. We thought we would dominate this year. We thought we would be Melbourne Storm-like. Instead we got a reality check. We confirmed that we have too many second graders in the team. We play an over simplistic and highly ineffective style of football. I can’t see the coach making the decision to drop players - Tupou, Friend, Napa, Tetevano and Matterson. At least Keary will replace an out-of-his-depth Cornish.

Many on here thought the Roosters would towel up the tigpies; I wasn't one of them because the Roosters seem to believe their own press ("premiership favourties" etc.) and then think its enough to walk onto the field. Nobody will get dropped, only Latrell in recent memory was dropped.

Robbo needs a new game plan one were the backs receive the ball as this safety first wear them out and down plan did not work and will not work - As Freddy said this morning he was really disappointed in the Roosters game as they threw nothing at the Tigers in attack despite having two quality attacking backs in Latrell and Fergo out wide.

The game plan played right into the Tigers hands - other worrying aspects were the number of offloads from the Tigers which really troubled the defence and that defending in numbers caused a lot of mistakes and errors from the Roosters players. Other teams will execute this better than the Tigers did - If Robbo's is to keep playing this way until the combo's gel the season could be almost over

Curious as to how our style has been ineffective when we've won 3 minor premierships and finished 2nd last year.

Surely the measurement of effectiveness is results?

What makes you say our style was ineffective?

We lost to one of the wooden spoon favourites?

PS: I don't think it is the end of the world. People underestimate the importance of Pearce's organisational skills. It is going to take a while...

But we played very differently to how we've played over the past 5 years under Robinson yesterday?

I think the Roosters were basically wanting to play like the Storm with Cronk calling the shots. Big forwards rolling it forward making no mistakes getting good field position & then Cronk putting on a dime deep in the oppositions 20. Playing the patient arm wrestle till the opposition makes a mistake & then Cronk in good field position either kicks across for his wingers to score or the inside kick for Teddy to score. The only thing missing was having the best player in the game at dummy half. Its only effective if you have Cameron Smith at dummy half & players who have been in the same system for years who clearly no their roles.
Its very structured mistake free patient football. The Roosters are not capable of that. If they can defend like they did yesterday every week then they should back themselves in attack & play some footy not try to play 5 hit ups then kick.

100% my thoughts on it. It's a huge change in philosophy that I think people are overlooking.

We did not play with the same style yesterday as we did for the previous 5 seasons.

Will be interesting to see how it develops over the coming rounds and whether we start to chance our hand a bit more once Keary returns.

                        What a load of rubbish.

Every team plays like this. It's rugby league 101.

You also don't need the best dummy half in the game to capitalise. Just someone better than Friend.

I wouldn't be too harsh on him.
He was on a hiding to nothing as a fill in who was playing out of position.

Coming second or in the top 8 may be well for mediocre clubs but for us we need to be competitive for the major prize...that is the GF. Otherwise we would have kept Pearce for another year of poor 5th tackle options and Finals failures. There’s no more good ol mate jnr to lead the way.
