rugby league is largely a game of confidence these days.

And confidence comes from knowing what to do. And it's clear to me that many of our players simply don't have any confidence in what they are doing from set to set, let alone from game to game. I've been reluctant to say last year was a fluke, but seeing the crap we throw up week after week this year has changed my mind. There is no way in hell we would have got near the GF playing the shit football we play now.

This year, we have not had a coach. When he wants to be, Smith is smart. At the moment, he is doing one of two things. Either he is waiting to be given full permission to do exactly what he wants to do with this team, in terms of recruitment, which is something that should have been granted the day he walked into Moore Park, or he is sitting back, enjoying the cash flow, and couldn't give a fuuck.

I can only hope it is the former, or fred is spot on.

How easy it is to forget that B Smith took the club to the GF last year. He did that with Linnett and BJ both in their 1st year out of NYC and their 1st year at this club. Had Anasta missed that field goal, had Benji not punched Pearce, then we would had exited the semis after game 1. In 2010, once the Storm were suspended, there was the dragons as the team to beat, then a very even field of teams in the pack behind. That was 2010. In 2012 there will be no Myles. Hopefully Tigave cements the other wing spot. The key will be injuries. Give us only 1 or 2 players missing from a forwards squad that includes Kennedy, FPN, Cherro, Maubs, Cordner, Brogden, & a fit T Symonds, as well as yesterdays team, and you have real competition for positions, and the coach will have real options when dealing with normal injury tolls or poor form. Right now, there are very few options. It's as simple as that.

There are many of you around here who will be in disbelief at that statement. I'm sure there will be plenty on here who will come out and say that we can win the comp next year. Heck there was plenty of you guys who still thought we could make the 8 only around a month ago.

Next year will not be much better so its best to try to get used to it from now unfortunately.
