  • Cordner next?

Ok, now Friend has extended, surely the priority is to sign Boyd to an extension of his contract.I keep reading rumours about Newcastle and even the Titans, and I am concerned.
I hope progress is being made behind the scenes, and I'm sure that Uncle Nick is aware of the importance of him staying with our club.
I believe the next few years will be his best as he is blossoming into the leader and footballer he was destined to be.

After getting him to the club as a 16yr old, and developing him over that time, it would be tragic if he then left in his prime.

He has the respect of everyone in the Rugby League world, and is a wonderful role model and ambassador for our game and club aside from being such a great player.

His attitude and the example he sets on and off the field are first class.
When you speak of club culture, Boyd Cordner is an example of what everyone wants at their club.

I hope we move mountains to keep him here....

With spare money for 2018 (Angus is not until 2019), would like to think we are upgrading and front loading players like Cordner and Latrell.

But I note in that Politis interview about our Salary cap the other day, he made mention of Cordner and said Boyd will likely not be a $mill a year player.

Quote: "Roosters and NSW captain Boyd Cordner is off contract at the end of next year. He'll be lucky to touch the magical million-buck mark, too, even if he deserves it as much as any other forward in the game. He's only 25 but his body knows how to find an injury, so he could take less in exchange for the security of a longer-term deal".

So you would think from that comment, BC's status is certainly being reviewed, but sounds like the club obviously want to retain him but won't pay the sort of money being mentioned by the Knights.

That wasn't a quote thankfully mate.

I wondered if the fuss being made of Jake Friend's signing is to compensate for his relinquishing the captaincy to Cordner.

Considering the comms from the club were headlined "Your captain re-signs", I doubt it.

Maybe for now, but the current NSW Captain deserves to be the Roosters' captain. Jake leads by example, but he is ill-equipped to fire the team up with words.

I certainly hope Boyd is next. As much as I'm excited about the Crichton signing, it will be an empty signing if it comes at the cost of losing Cordner.

Don't think Boyd is known for his use of words either. Boyd is more of a 'look and stare' type guy coupled with a 'follow me and run like this' style of captaining.

Cronk will be the on field General out there.

Should even be in the press conferences as well, as can string a sentence together eloquently too.

Harsh on Cords. While he may not be polished like Cronk, he does speak quite eloquently.

I like the way Cordner speaks. He doesn't just ramble on and on. He's very considered in what he says, which is something he may have learned from Robbo.

I understand that they don't make you vice captain of your country and captain of your state for no reason but my thoughts go to the prelim and the second origin game. Granted he was playing busted in both those games. However, a message that was clear to everyone in hindsight wasn't conveyed at the time. Whereas Cronk (with captain Smith next to him) went all the way to the big prize.

He's young for a captain and I'd rip in if I was playing beside him, so he'll learn especially from those players, where he needs to improve.

I cant believe that Cords is not the highest priority for us.

NSW and Aust rep. Top bloke. Tough as teak.

Gus is good, but Cords is better.

What makes you think Cords is not our highest priority? What gave you this idea? Neither the club nor Cordner himself have made any statement or comments publicly about where either party stands. For all we know, they may be in the thick of negotiations. It would be naive to believe all the BS that you read here from few who actually know anything that happens behind the scenes.

In Luke Keary’s The Locker Room interview he compared Boyd Cordner to Sam Burgess in that if it’s the 79th minute and you’re completely busted, he will take a run that’s as hard if not harder then the one he took in the first minute. And if you’re not with him he’ll bring you with him.

That’s the kind of captain I want in my team.
