  • Referees impact on the game.

The Refs don't intentionally give penalties against the Roosters. They subconsciously give penalties to a team that is getting beaten. The fist penalty to NQ was bullshit and turned the game. A few years ago we were so good that we could overcome penalties but this year is so close that we really struggle with back to back sets.
This is the problem with our game. Discretionary penalties have way to much influence on the game!
The ref is in such a difficult position these days. With replays on TV.
The refs don't mean to do it. It is just a split decision.
The try to Hess was No try but the Ref had to Guess and went with Try. In Union The Ref can ask Try or no Try, or, is their any reason I cannot award a try.

I just think penalties have way too much influence on our game and it infuriates the fans.

Anyone got any ideas on how to reduce the impact of discretionary penalties? Maybe just start the tackle count again with no kick for the sideline?

Again NO way do the Refs get together and work out "how can we F#%K over the Roosters this weekend"
I am not Ref bashing. Under the current rules they have a very difficult job and have to make split decisions.

Without penalties the game would be very boring. Penalties dictate a game.

People in denial about the role game managers play in creating money for the nrl use words like "subconcious" to explain the rub of the green.

How to reduce the impact of "discretionary" penalties???????????????
      Too easy.

I could give a five to ten point plan on that, but I'd probably bore you all to death..

The start is easy, too easy.
Pretend league is a sporting contest again. Set rules , and apply them.
Get rid of the game managers and their interpretation of the grey areas set up.
Bring back referees, and a fair contest.

We ain't sheep, and the game is more resiliant than the bank managers who run it think.

You are correct on both counts Mickie, I am just trying to address a very controversial topic ATM.
I think if you go onto any teams forum you will find someone complaining that my team is unfairly treated by the Ref.
I guess the issue has always been there, its just now with so many camera angles the Refs are under so much scrutiny.

And also the hotdog sellers that used to be at the games plus the peanut man selling peanuts, in the shell or sugar coated.
And they should also bring back black ankle high footy boots with screw in studs.

No way are they Refs doing this on purpose.
You are kidding yourself. Could you imagine the impact if it came out that the NRL was influencing games via the Referees? Just never going to happen.
Referees are human of course they are going to stuff up. The problem is our Referee boss wont admit when his boys make a mistake.

Sarcasm aside, don't you like a fair contest?
You'd rather game managers than refs?

                Ironical ain't it?
The nrl has admitted to selling out to the sports entertainment industry.
The nrl invented the term "game mananger" .
The nrl has prided itself on giving the "people"a different premier for so long.

They are in the business of making money,.

You are the one who is kidding yourself my friend.

"our" referee boss is a plant.
