I thought that's what Johns is there for...obviously the results are not on par with whatever effort...No good ROI!

We've got the wrong Johns brother for that IMO. Joey was one hell of an instinctive footballer, but you can't teach instinct. Matt seems to have a better theoretical knowledge. Probably a consequence of having to work harder for everything he achieved.

You're right about that. I have always believed that great sportsmen, those that have reached the top in their sports, are not very good at coaching..There might be a few or so but generally they fail, probably because they expect to teach their instinct rather than the mechanics of what made them so great.

Probably an extremely generous, self-depreciating comment. However, I remember hearing Joey (while watching Origin or a GF) say that his kicking was mostly instinctive (rather than trained like the guys today). Like... he'd just drop the ball on his foot and 90% of the time it'd do what he wanted, but he didn't really spend time practicing the more technical parts of the kick.

Wonder if that's true to an extent? I feel Cronk's not naturally all that good compared with say Joey/Freddy. However, he's spent so much time playing within amazing teams and has put so much effort into training that he has absolutely nailed all the basics, and simply cannot make mistakes if he follows his training/instructions. Whereas, a Todd Carney (and maybe Joey to an extent) is 'better', but lacks the discipline and technical training.

Cronk might know more about trchnique than Joey (or anybody for that matter). I'd love to have him as a technical coach for our halves.
