  • Different tactics

We've been together several years and yet we don't show signs of any special movesand creativity.

Eg noticed a team this week trapping the ball in the scrum and the lock breaks pretending he has the ball. Result - penalty

Eg push in a scrum against the feed

Whilst 5th tackle options are boring (even the mid field bomb near posts) or kicking for the uprights seem to have disappeared..

I agree you don't show your full hand until later in the semis but my fear is we've had the same coach and player group relatively stable but not much changes. Thoughts?

Melbourne have done that 3 times this year, smartest team/coach to play the game by far.

Careful, this sounds like some level of criticism towards TR. Always remember, this is The Chookpen so TIT.

I thought we would have something new to bring to the table in the semis in 2014 and especially 2015. Didnt happen.

No team would have won the 2015 comp if their halfback and team organiser was injured in rnd 24/25. Not to mention our forward leader and the form forward of the comp in JWH.

Trent should be completely absolved from blame there.

2014 however was a huge disappointment. We were the best side by a mile and I think RTS should have been fullback all year to add something different.

We were absolutely flying until that Brisbane game. I fully expected to win the comp that year.

2014 was a set up for Souffs from the start.

2015 was the best brand of footy we have played since the 02-04 era and even then it would've been a great comparison.

I'm sorry JT but you need to go back and watch that season over, we were unstoppable before JWH & Pearce went down. 16 out of 17 wins before the finals series is ridiculous domination in the salary cap era.

Brilliantly well coached side, although you don't see the irony in bringing up Melbourne in a thread about changing tactics? No team has stuck more to their game plan than the Melbourne Storm has over the past decade.

Yep we were overwhelming favourites in 2015 heading into the finals.

Sadly you've gotta keep your best players fit and as soon as we had those 5 minutes of mayhem with Pearce and JWH going down - and then the confirmation on the severity of their injuries - I was absolutely crushed.

Just sat in silence all night as I knew our season ended in those two unlucky moments.

No one would have touched us in the finals had they both been fit.

And yeah 2014, who can forget the 6 nil 2nd half penalty count in the Prelim. The NRL is such a fix it's only my love of the Roosters that keeps me watching.

That said had we beat Penrith as we should - Casty robbed too - we would have beat the Dogs in the Prelim and got Souffs in the GF where the refs are less whistle happy.

Anyone with a brain could see the Souffs fix that year but we still killed ourselves. Didn't have the desire.

Such fine margins between b2b or even a 3peat and all time greatness, and in contrast as it is - lingering disappointment just like 03-04. Freddy would already deservedly be an Immortal surely if we went on with the job in just one of those GFs.

After JWH and Pearce they were still dominant. My heart was broken in Brisbane.

It was never going to translate into the big finals games.

Name me a team thats lost their key playmaker and key forward and still won a comp? Never happened in the NRL era. Never will.

My heart was broken in that rnd 24 clash. Our season ended that night.

We didn't even get through the first pass and we were done. But hey we caught the kickoff

I was getting Golden Gaytimes when I heard the crowd roar. I knew it wouldn't be good news.

...when SKD threw a juicy cut out pass straight to a Broncos player.
