Mitchell Pearce had a great game today, probably the only one, although Gordon was solid, but please never give the ball to Pearce for a fg, try Keary or Latrell Mitchell but never Pearce. The team was terrible and their attitude sucked, they were made to look second rate by an ordinary side. I knew they were going to lose when I saw them come out for the warm up, too much smiling and joking around. JWH was very ordinary.

His success rate is pretty poor, but did we lose the game coz of that? Shortly after the miss we would have had another chance, except that Gumby Guerra couldn't play the ball properly. I don't care if you have 10 defenders on top of you, at that stage of the game you gotta do everything you can do to play it properly. That was the turning point.
He was not on his own though. Same old players making the same old mistakes dropping the ball. Toups, Guerra, SKD, Liu are all good for at least one or two a game. And don't forget butter fingers Matterson. His handling is terrible.

What really saddened me tonight is that it was obvious that there would be very limited opportunities to wrap the game up and our much lauded no. 7 is still incapable of landing a FG from pretty much right in front. During the off-season I had hoped that he would have spent an appropriate amount of time perfecting that skill.... anyway guys thanks for the previous 4 weeks and hopefully the wheels haven't completely fallen off.. dust yourselves off and come back stronger next week.... where oh where is SST.

I don't blame Pearce for missing the goal, i blame the decision to take a shot at field goal, we needed to run the ball more, we had them shot out wide and all we did was kick kick kick, that includes the attempted field goal

Well he took on the line from 5m out and scored about 5 mins before. TBH I haven't seen him do that possibly ever. The one against Souths in the 2014 prelim final was from 40m out not 5m so first time from 5m for a lomg time haha.

Why he even bothers attempting to kick a field goal when he cannot baffles me. He moves backwards and away in the motion of dropping the ball and kicking it thus having very little control over the direction of the kick. Surely we give the duty to Latrell, Keary or even Gordon before Pearce?

Imagine an SKD field goal attempt... he'd some how drop punt it 80 yards over his head and into our own in goal.

I dont think most of the posters are blaming Pearce for the loss. In fact several posters credit him with playing well and also scoring an important try in the context of the match.
They are mainly just saying Pearce cannot kick a field goal for shit to which any Blind Freddy would agree.

Guerra should never have been on the field, and a tonne of other players made school boy errors as well.... but Pearce to me is still the biggest worry out of this game.

Yet again, our star player collecting the biggest pay cheque proves he cannot win us a game. Yet again, in a clutch moment. Pearce couldn't get it done.

These are the types of games that any good half lives for. A grinding affair that needs someone to step up and take control. Pearce is not that player. He is the last man in our team that I would want with the ball in hand and the game on the line, as he has proven time and time again that he can't handle the responsibility.

If Robbo ever runs a field goal play again in training with Pearce as the man taking the shot, he should be fired.

I say it a lot but when you play 80 minutes of footy it's a cop out if you blame 1 player or 1 move. That's like blaming a soccer goalie for letting a goal in, it's always more complex than that...

Yes Pearce messed up the field goals. BUT! Gordon messed up 2 free points from in front. Also, Guerra lost the bloody ball with about a minute to go. Latrell made Walker look like a hero by running off his line. Not blaming him but Napa got injured against a physical team leaving us short on the bench. It's nobody's fault, we just didn't play well enough!!!
