That statement is undeniably true. I'm with you.

I blame Thatcherism/Reaganism and the whole "money trumps everything" that their brand of conservatism set-off and now permeates ubiquitously in the West.

Everything now is a corporate play, and no one gives a shit about society. It's all about Shareholders and Stakeholders, rather than Clubs and fans. And all along the way, it's the players themselves who are the most dispensable. "The game" doesn't give a shit about players' wellbeing. They just want to avoid the lawsuits.
