Did the ancient Chinese rambler who we must all respect for his eternal wisdom predict our downfall?

富不过三代 or Wealth does not pass three generations.
This aphorism relates not just to monetary wealth, but also towards family fortunes in their entirety –power and influence– which naturally includes the rise and decline of monarchs and dynasties.'
3 years at the top and now we're the worst team in the comp during the 4th generation. Damn you ancient Chinese philosopher! Is there some truth in this though - has our success been our downfall? I suspect we're used to winning and approached this season assuming we would be a decent team (rather than working our bums off, knowing we'll get smashed if we don't put in the extra yards.) We assumed we'd survive without our stars - but have lacked punch without them.
It's depressing seeing what we've squandered this year. The season's essentially over and it's only round 8! It'll get mathematical soon. Can we rebuild the dynasty in 2017?
