  • This game changes everything!

Ryan who? Ryan Matterson. What an impressive debut. A big boy with some sublime passing and kicking skills. Dare I say "Freddy-esque".

This was easily the best kicking game I have seen from a Roosters half in a long time. The pressure is now on for Jackson Hasting to hold his five eight position when Pearce returns to half. I can now see Jackson moving back to the bench as dummy half relief for Jake.

Also see Toups not coming back to wing for a while as thought Burgess had a very solid game and Elliott deserves to stay as he is the only outside back I don't have a heart attack when he carries the ball up.

Was everyone else as impressed as me with Matterson?

Elliott I respect as he respects the ball.

I thought his kicking game was brilliant and overall was great. I would actually like to see him keep his place in the side and drop hastings to the bench for pearce.

Ryan Matterson is now the second player this season compared to Brad Fittler after one match.

No way Connor Watson loses his bench spot after today

Good solid debut. Made up for his crucial mistake.

Should be eased off the bench.

Unless Matterson can kick goals SOH will be on the field for 80 minutes. I think we learned our lesson regarding goal kicking after the first few games.

I don't know but surely it's in his blood?

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Uncle Terry the last of the toe-punters before around-the-corner took over.

Would love to see Ryan bring back the toe-punt.

Matterson a big boy. If he bulks up a little he will probably end up a ball-playing lock. Those who want to get rid of Guerra might get their wish.

Would like to see him kick a few of our more experienced players in the bum and tell them to man up!

I don't think it changes anything.

Hastings has been playing the far more difficult role all season. There's a huge difference between being the organiser who has 60 touches of the ball a game and being a support half who touches the ball 20-30 times a game. I don't think he's done a good job at it by any means but for a 20 year old who's got barely a dozen first grade games as a starting half he's done some extremely good things.

He deserves first crack playing besides Pearce in a role that will just allow him to play his natural game and develop his skills.

The knee jerk reaction would be to discard Hastings now after he's spent the last 2 months filling in to a role far beyond his experience & knowledge at the elite level.
