Very good first game and seems to have good football skills and better vision than Hastings who I feel is a bit selfish in his play either that or he has no vision at all. Would love to see him back next week off the bench.

From starting 5/8, to bench player with a second rower in your position to being completely dropped within 8 weeks. I agree that they ****ed that up. They backed the wrong rookie apparently.

I was more referring to the people who want to get rid of Hastings off the back of one game by Matterson, which was solid but really not that spectacular. I suppose when you're having a season like ours you tend to look for any positive you can find

He was definitely the bright spot for me. Great kicking, took some hit-ups, defense was solid. Scored a try by following up his excellent kick, created another. What was clear was that unlike his halves partner, he has a football brain.

Thirty odd games into his career, I am yet to see what Hastings has that is out of the ordinary. His kicking for position is rotten, his ability to think on his feet is non-existent, and it would be remiss of me not to mention that his beard is ****ing shit. The number of times in the second half he ran the ball rather than taking advantage of an overlap had me pulling out my hair. I'll forgive him the rubbish chip into the hands of the opposing player on the try line towards the end of the match, although clearly he should have put the ball on the ground. But he bombed a clear try by hogging the ball and just makes these mistakes too often. He has all the same weaknesses as Pearce, with fewer of the strengths (long kicking game, strong running game, great defense).

Week after week we are schooled by average teams with one good half. Last week it was Soward. This time it was Widdop. God knows what teams with two halves would do to us. But we could do much worse than keep Matterson next week when Pearce comes back.

I hope thats what happens and Hastings to bench but can any one kick goals?

Matterson and Watson the bright sparks amongst the 9 debutants we have had this year. Watson only 2 years out of school and shows more posure than most besides having speed. Speed always beats a man. Speed is something we lack.

With Matto out with a broken leg and Jr acting like a moron, Robbo had little option but to throw Nico into the deep end. As we all saw, it hasn't worked out. The byproduct is the kids confidence is shot. Matto had a strong off-season until he broke his leg. Nice debut, but could easily play 2nd row. Well done Matto.

Yeah u could say that, but I guess when u fork out 200k for him vs 10k for what's in your backyard, the first inclination is to give the Porsche a run.
