Some of you will remember what happened in 1983. Fulton returned to Manly and took half of the Easts team with him. Actually, if Kevin Hastings had not signed just before this he would have gone too.
Well, from where I stand Brian Smith has not much left in the tank. He has tried hard but unfortunately his coaching prowess has,to use a metaphor, "the candle is barely flickering"; picture the SFS right now on a cold Sunday night, an icy wind whistling through the gaps between the chilled pylons and the vision of the Grim Reaper holding a candle, almost extinguished. I digress.
Whatever it takes go after Des Hasler and get some of his players in the process. This man has his team ready to play week in week out. Of all the coaches in the NRL, Hasler exudes passion and is a motivator par excellence.
This move could literally match what happened in 95 when we got Gould, and then Fittler.
The start of a new dawn may not be that far away.

Hasler would be a great signing. I have no doubt we would be a regular finalist with him in charge.

Unfortunately we are stuck with the idiot smith, our club stupidly signed him for 4 years and they are going to stick with him. Although my own view is that the inevitable pathetic losses that will keep coming under smith will only heap more pressure on the club to act faster.

A move to sign Hasler would not be cheap. You would have to throw a lot of cash at him and pitch a master plan that would get him excited. It could be done, just like Ron Jones back in the 70s.

        Didn't he just re-sign till 2014?

We could try something we haven't tried for a long time... sticking with a coach. Crazy concept I know

So what. We can go after him, and derail Manly's year in the process. The more you look into it you can easily cause a storm in a teacup without having any tea in the house. Whatever that might mean. The roosters management cannot afford to sit on their hands and allow things to disintegrate.
The Roosters future is at stake.
Damn it, that is all that matters!

Do you actually have any evidence that it's the coach that must go? That he is indeed the problem... I mean you've come to a conclusion pretty quickly and found a solution but for all you care you're solving a problem that might not even exist.

Every time the going gets tough we sack a coach... it has brought us short-term success but never long term success. Why not try a different path for once?

Well if I was in charge of this crazy idea the first thing I would do is to get Rooster Cogburn onto the Manly forum and thensome; some may remember the Rooster's efforts in the past that have seen him banned from just about every forum in the RL speaking world.

Of course it's the coach. He's the one responsible for the teams performance each week.

Whose else fault do you think it is - yours and mine?

If anything, last year showed that we've got the players. Same as 2 years prior to that.

We just don't have a coach that can maintain things in the long term. If only we had proven long term successful coaches like hasler or bellamy or Bennett.

Hasler would not show the same passion for us he has for Manly.

                  Chook.

Exactly. Ours is a Club that does not promote 'passion'. How can we be when we have a guy like Riddell running around in FG? When our Captain refuses to give his players a fair dinkum spray?
And why is their a post about something which is never going to happen? There is no way Hasler would ever come here. Face it people. Once upon a time players & coaches would love to come here. I remember when Finch signed and they interviewed him and he spoke about how much some of the Raiders players were jealous of him because he was going to the Roosters. Those days are long gone.

Partially. I though the lazy clumsy players may contribute some.

Melon - Smith is coaching the drop balls, players at that level can't catch unless they practice, I'm going to send my 6 year old down to help them, FPN dropped the ball more times this week than ,y young bloke has in 2 years.....

He keeps picking the same culprits each week. He's the one who gets them to play like the harlem globetrotters even when its raining or hailing.

Or we could just support the team and coaching staff we have?
