  • Pronunciation...

Call me what you like, but it astounds me how the media just makes up pronunciations for different names. To think of a few:
    - Tasi!! I've now heard Tazzie, Tassie, Tarzie and Tar's Eye. Surely they could ask him before the game rather than winging it?
    - Soward has simply become sAAAAwood. As explained in other threads, I work with lots of Sowards and it's so-ard (unless you are gus gould the trend setter.)
    - Lote... some guy from Fiji rang up a while back and said "yeah here in Fiji we love his name, but why do you all call him Tookiri in Australia? It's Toongiri." I asked Lote in person when he was at a function and he agreed, but shrugged and said "whetever's easy for people really, I don't care."
    - JWH... gets wirra-hargreaves, why we're a hargreaves, why-reea hargreaves and seems to just be hargreaves now because nobody has a clue.

Not saying I'm the guru, but why don't commentators simply go down to the dressing room (or radio down there) and say "oi can you put Tasi on the radio for me? Just wanna check how he pronounces his name..."

Since I will probably never meet the majority of players, I'd like those who have access to them to get the correct pronunciation of their names for me.
