  • Golden Point.

    Who enjoys it?

Should it be scrapped and replaced by Golden Try?

Should the points be shared during the regular season if both teams are locked up after 80 minutes?

Is it a lottery or is there some level of game management required?

    Hate it with a passion.
Regular season games have draws.A draw is a result.
If my team is level with another and the end of 80 minutes, I'm happy to come away with a well earned competition point.
Don't wanna go double or nothing,
Draws also help break up the competition table.

Scrappy field-goal-a-thons at the end of a hard game suck big time.
    It ain't rugby league.

agree Eddie but accept Golden point for the Semis. Too big a disadvantage playing a replay then playing on the weekend against a "fresher team"

True that, but the old extra time system was fairer.

Hard to say. Don't mind a draw in the regular season. But who would want to play 15-20 minutes of extra time in a finals game. It would wreck the players.

Its always hard to lose by a field goal, personally I prefer another 5 mins either way, regardless if you kick a field goal, you still complete the extra time, after that if its still a draw, so be it, one point each, or if a Grand Final, joint premiers, no stigma to that, both teams have given their all.

Love it when we win, hate it when we lose. For the GF, I would be happy for it to be 10 mins each way or Golden Try.

I think regular season games should still have golden point - but give each team a point after 80 minutes. The golden point should determine who gets the extra point.

Semi's, what other option is there? Can't believe Bennett moaning about wanting a replay - can you imagine everyone flying back to Qld and then attending a replay later in the week. Where would people find the money?

They have 80 minutes to break a 0-0 deadlock. A draw is fair during the season. Golden point was only introduced after a SOO game was drawn. Nothing to do with the regular season.

In semis it should be 5 or 10 minutes each way. If it is a draw after that then whoever scores most tries in extra time wins. If equal tries then the first try in extra time wins. If no tries then happy to go with golden point after the extra time.

I'd make 80min wins worth 3 points and the winner of GP worth 2. The loser gets just the 1 point.

What's wrong with a draw in the regular season.? It is a result.
And each premiership game can only be worth two points.
Bennett wasn't being practical about replays I agree. What worked for a Sydney comp in the seventies won't work today.

BUDDY's post offered the perfect solution , imo.

And why must a premiership game be worth two points?
IMO Kingsgrove-Loiner hit the mark. I just don't see why a winner in GP get's the same points as a team that wins in regular time.

During semis, there are options possible for a fairer overall outcome... for example if a top 4 team loses in GP in game 1 then they might retain their home ground advantage for the next game. Admittedly I haven't worked through all the possible permutations here but it could make for a fairer finals series.

Unless there is a possibility that this hair brain idea could severely disadvantage the Rooster's then I'm totally against it.

Bennett didn't complain about golden point in r6, not one mention, just his way of taking the focus off the premiers
