I can't see us signing anyone too major even if we lose Maloney. Just look at our contract situation

2016- Cordner, Jennings, Moa, Aubo, Evans, Liu, Hastings

2017- Pearce, Napa, SKD, JWH, Guerra, SST

    2018 - Friend

We have a lot of retention to look after over the next three seasons. A big signing could be very difficult - our only real hope is the discretionary fund Dave Smith keeps talking about

Seeing as players generally sign 2-3 year deals it's not unusual to have a lot of our star players off contract over the next 2-3 seasons..

We're not too bad next year. It's not like any of those players are demanding a pay rise right now. Liu, Evans & Hastings well may do but I wouldn't be overly fussed if we shedded Jennings to make that happen.

2017 looks the year that we're going to have to make a real tough call. Jennings may have to go either way.

I agree 100% John. Something is going to happen. We gave plans.

I think they would have assured SOH the 5/8 spot when BBQ leaves.
Defence SOH is probably better. He has a good kicking game. He can kick goals. I can't really compare his attack but he has a lot of upside. It will be interesting to watch SOH against the Warriors if he is chosen at halfback.
If SOH had that intercept would he have run the length of the field? Can anyone shed any light on his speed off the mark and over a distance?

For sure mate, it's a long time between now and next season but if Jennings doesn't pick up his form then I think he'll be let go. It's a shame cause he's a high class centre, but he just seems to have no confidence at the moment. Every decision he makes isn't coming off for some reason. Can't question is effort but imo.

In saying that, until the next TV deal comes along it's very tough to judge what our abilities will be to keep our players.

The issue with Jennings is that he's a finisher. Which is fine, but you don't pay finishers 600k a year. Even if he regains his form I find his salary to be extremely excessive.

If he had the ability to create some tries for his winger or others then he would be an elite centre pushing that 500-600k mark but he's just not close at the moment and probably never will be.

Jnr Horry lacks pace over long distance.
With Foran heading to Parra in 2016, I wouldn't mind chasing Corey Norman as Maloney's replacement. I think he's off contract this year. Neat kicking game, deceptive with the ball and kicks goals too. Wouldn't cost too much either.

God no, Norman is incredibly overrated. Wouldn't be cheap either, would be a massive step back from Maloney.

Sam Williams would be the only half that'd excite me, possibly Albert Kelly although his injuries worry me.

Couldn't help but notice the lack of joy on not only Maloney's face when he scored the runaway try and ALSO the only other rooster to come and congratulate him was Cordner. Neither captain Jake or Pearce came over...there were no high fives...it was just flat without enthusiasm. The contrast was so different in tonight game with the Cowboys/Parra where there was great joy when a team mate scored. Seems like maybe our team morale is down with the uneasiness about Maloney's contract. And I noticed so often in our game in the second half the roosters trainer was on...but apparently not giving any guidance or instructions with Trent's bagging his coaching staff....I think there are more issues than just dropped balls.....

I can't see any other options than Hastings or Maloney wearing our 6 next season.

Same as I can't see anyone else but Ferguson or Mitchell wearing our number 1 next season.

The success we've had is starting to take it's toll. I guess no one on here (myself included) thought the players we'd be losing were RTS and probably Maloney if recent reports are any indication of what will happen.

I'd love to see a big name come in, but I just can't see it happening.

I think SBW for 2017 is our most realistic chance at a major signing in the next couple of seasons
