  • Fullback options?

    Something out of left field.

Until J Carney puts on an easts jumper in first grade, the jury is still out. Even Williamson looked on youtube. With Skd recently resigning, our options for the next few years in our backline include Mini, BJ, Linnett, J Carney, SKD, Perritt, Graham, Naughton, Khierallah, Ford, Towers?

With Mini close to retirement, and say Duggan stays in Canberra, could Linnett be converted into a fullback?

    Don't shoot me down yet.

With a shit-load of players off contract next year, would it be better/cheaper to "manufacture" a fullback instead of paying overs for one, and losing some of our other promising young players (ie Symonds)? Anasta resigning as well will eat up heaps of cash! Linnett is a similar size to Duggan, takes the line on, has good hands, and is lightning quick.

With SKD resigning for mega-bucks, and J Carney a new addition, not too much cash will be available. BJ is built more like a centre than a winger (and too slow for a winger). Perritt seems to be a Smithy favourite. Towers seems not to be wanted, still cannot work out why!

What are others thoughts on Linnett? Seems to be level headed and reliable. If not Linnett, what else do we have in-house as a replacement for Mini, without going to the market and paying overs for a classy fullback?

    We can not re-sign everyone.

    Just thinking out loud.

If Smith is really that against giving Towers an opportunity then personally I'd sign Milne, really good player and he wouldn't cost a lot.

Steve Naughton is the guy to replace Mini, he is siimilar in style to Josh Dugan without the rats tail and the huge price tag.

Linnett is a specialist centre and should stay there.

Milne would be a great buy. Would come on the cheap because he'd be desperate to get out of playing park footy because Dugan will keep him down at the Raiders and the Roosters don't need a ballplaying fullback as we are all set for ballplayers.

Milne has a devastating running game.

I think we should continue to buy Canberra players. Carney, Carney, Naughton, Dugan, Milne, Thompson, Croker. I just love listening to the tripe that comes out of both Furners.

If we can't get Dugan then it's Naughton for mine. Already have him at a cheap price. Only problem is they aren't playnig him at fullback for Newtown so not sure if that is what Smithy is thinking.

I think it should be whether or not Greg Matterson is thinking.

I still think Smithy has a bit of influence if he wanted to test Naughton at fullback.

I would like to see him get a run this year at some stage as he has some real talent.

Pritchard ran at fullback in the trials subbing for Mini. He is currently fullback for Jets... Has scored a try in each of the NSW Cup games so far apparently. He is the guy that scores the first try in this vid here: http://bigpondvideo.com/NSWRL/338910

Linnet looks like a fullback to me.

The key words in that story are "in the next couple of years". Come 2013 there are plenty of elite players who's contracts will be up. The year the new TV deal starts. The year the salary cap is presumably giong up. The year Anasta, Mini and Ryles will all possibly retire. The year all of the Sharks players are available (not that that will excite too many). I am sure we will be in the market for one or two of those elite players.
