  • Forward Rotation

when everyone returns fully fit Smith will have some interesting decisions to make regarding the makeup of his forward pack, it was clear last night we lost a lot of momentum when Ryles/Masoe/FPN where sitting on the bench together.

when at full strength I would like to see a starting pack of

Ryles (has been a great signing and gets the team rolling forward)
Friend (along with Myles the glue that holds the team together)
Masoe (his shear size/power is a must in wining the initial confrontations)
Maubs (runs excellent lines and solid in defence)
    Myles (outstanding workrate and leadership)
Anasta (has really stepped up since being moved to lock)

    with a bench of

JWH (starting to bend the defensive line with strong charges)
Conn (solid option with a great offload to take advantage of a tiring defence)
FPN (will re-energize the forwards after the initial sorting out period)
Leilua (for 18y/o he is so powerful and is without doubt our most promising youngster)

    off to Newtown

Symonds (just hasn't been the same since knee injury, might need another pre-season to regain his confidence)

Kennedy (very unlucky not to win a place in the top 17 has many great years ahead of him, hopefully he is still here to take over from Ryles in 2012)

Paea (has fallen off the pace this year and most likely on his way out the door at seasoned end, will likely get a run this weekend due to injuries and hopefully takes the opportunity to win a contract elsewhere he is certainly one of the NRL nice guys)

Koups (as we know he is still likely to keep his place in the top 17, just can't see the point of having a reserve hooker that only gets 10-15 minutes at most, as a backrower there are plenty of others in front of him, will be out the door at seasons end thanks to the signing of Watts)

Cherro (injuries have destroyed his development the likes of JWH/Leilua are well in front of him in the pecking order now, which is a great shame because he was outstanding in the pre-season, will have a real battle to force his way back into the team with the club also signing Tasi from Manly for next year)

Jaubs (unfortunately didn't take his chances before he got injured, i'm sure Smith would have loved to have him on the bench instead of Koups but just didn't aim up when required, is another likely to be gone at seasons end.)

few other forward packs in the NRL can offer such size/power as the current Roosters crop, they just need to gain some more experience as a unit and cut out some of the silly defensive lapses we are prone to having and we should be a feared club once again heading into the next couple of years.

It looks ilke Kennedy and Paea will get a huge opportunity to prove themselves against the Eels with Masoe/JWH/Conn all likely out.

Agree with your pack. In finals footy it is a big ask to have Friend play 80 minutes though. He did it last night, but semis will be harder and faster.

I think Smiths biggest decision will be whether to have a backup on the bench (even if it is reserve grader like Koups or Jaubs) or trust in Friends endurance.

I think Conn is essential on the bench as he provides a high work rate which balances out some of our more explosive forwards.

Despite what Ugly Mask Taylor thinks - I would prefer our pack to anyone else in the league, even Souffs. At the start of the year I would have thought I was crazy saying that - but that is the way it is. Even the bench outlined above are playing like guns. Our forward depth is astounding.

I like that pack, but i would put Myles to frontrow and FPN to backrow and would have to start Masoe off the bench.

Did you miss the first hit up of the game against Brisbane?

At full strength Ryles, Masoe, Myles and FPN would all have an impact starting. Too hard to pick who should sit out but they would all also have super impact from the bench after 15-20 minutes.

I would also have Leilua starting out in the centre or wing; right hand preferably. Time to sort our right hand defense before the semis.

It's easy choice, put the socks up lads on at the start and the socks down boys on the bench.

                Chook.

Kouparitsas is reliable so when Friend doesn't have a good game, it's good to know Nick can slot into the dummy half role. It would have to be at the expence of one of the big units.

I certainly didnt JT, just like i havnt missed FPN's or Myles form all year. IMO i would prefer Myles and FPN to start, i think we are more solid defensively and the fact that these guys have so much more experience is also a positive leading into the finals.

Not assuming anything. I find that Nick is good off the bench. Reliable and makes good runs from dummy half. As for Friend, he is playing very well. lets just hope he keeps his other side away from scandals and we should be fine. I do think Nick gives a choice of a forward with some ball skills and good defence. My opinion, of course.
