Even though they've struggled so far, the Broncos have one player who's been in great form, and by God I'd love it if he played for us...

Brisbane Broncos are reeling from injuries, Allan Langer's suspension
            Matt Marshall
March 30, 2010 .Brisbane Broncos' early season crisis has deepened, with five more players facing injury lay-offs and skills coach Allan Langer stood down after being charged with drink-driving.

Up to three more troops could join Israel Folau and Denan Kemp in the casualty ward following Sunday's 48-16 loss to the Warriors.

The crippling blows have thrown "Ivan's infants" into disarray, as the besieged club attempts to rustle a side together for their annual Good Friday clash against the Roosters in Sydney.

Amid the doom and gloom, steadfast coach Ivan Henjak yesterday backed his young charges to show the necessary resolve to bounce back from their alarming losses to the Raiders and Warriors.

"I'm not in the practice of giving up on guys that early," Henjak declared. "I'll give them the opportunity to dig themselves out of it.

"I always knew there would be hurdles. I always knew it would get tough. I knew it would get tough last year, too. It's earlier than we would have liked, but you just can't expect to get through a season without some carnage.

"Results are irrelevant at the moment. We just want to see them competing really hard, playing for 80 minutes and playing for each other."

Star centre Folau (hand, four-six weeks) and Kemp (ribs, four-eight weeks) have joined Justin Hodges (foot, 17 weeks), Corey Parker (knee, four weeks), Jharal Yow Yeh (knee, five weeks), Steve Michaels (ankle, four weeks), Rohan Ahern (knee, season) and retired ex-Origin hooker P.J. Marsh on the club's injury list.

Kemp's condition was of particular concern, with the winger spending the night in hospital under observation.

            "He's pretty bad," Henjak said.

"He had his lungs drained today, he is pretty crook. He's looking at two months or more on the sidelines."

Injury clouds are also hovering over key trio Matt Gillett, Andrew McCullough and Scott Anderson, who will all be given fitness tests on Thursday as they race the clock to line up on Friday night.
Back-up half Ben Hunt, under-20s prop Dunamis Lui and NRL veteran Ashton Sims are all set to be drafted into an extended squad today. Redcliffe trio Josh Hoffman, David Hala and Michael Spence, and under-20s Dane Gagai and Dale Copley, are also on the drawing board as the club attempts to cover its crippling toll.

Brisbane's besieged squad are braced to confront a smarting Chooks outfit, whipped 60-14 by the Bulldogs on Sunday. Ben Te'o, who did a solid job as Folau's replacement against the Warriors, is expected to again man the centres, while Alex Glenn may need to shift to lock if Gillett fails a fitness test.

Hoffman, who has been playing centre for the Dolphins in the state league, Gerard Beale and Copley are other options.

Henjak's coaching staff took a major hit yesterday when Langer was stood down until after a court hearing on April 19 for a drink-driving charge levelled late on Sunday night.

"We'll just get by. I'm not going to rush into a replacement," Henjak said of Langer.

"It's the last thing I want to think about."

The Roosters, whose unbeaten start to the season came apart in spectacular fashion against the Bulldogs on Sunday, expect to have both Jason Ryles (lower back) and Phil
Graham (concussion) back for the Broncos game.

Well its good to see for a change the Bronx having injury concerns and not us on Good Friday,we`ve been undermanned many a times for these clashes in the past!

I can see Kennedy playing this game. I'm sure that Smith wants to give him the chance to redeem himself somewhat, instead of just going back to Newtown with his head hung.

The bloke better start bending the line though!

Takairangi and Kouparitsas - is that really the best the Roosters have as depth ?!?
Dear oh dear, depth is skinnier than I thought it was if that is the case.

I can't see what Koups has done wrong so far?

I thought he was solid in the first 2 games.

Mike, I'm basing my opinion of Koups on the following:
                        • his unsuitability both in build and approach for playing 9
                        • he isn't a great defender or a great attacker
                        • he isn't quick and doesn't provide great service from the play the ball
                        • yes, nitpicking, but that stupid grubber he tried against the tigpies that led to a tigpies try
                        • he couldn't crack the 'dogs FG side last year

I think he is a great reserve grader but not quite good enough for FG based on what I've seen and what some of the other teams' number 14s provide.

I don't understand why Smith continues to name Takairangi, clearly the coaching staff doesn't have confidence in him evidenced by the amount of minutes they give him.

depth was always going to be a problem this season and with injuries to the likes of Ryles,Cherro,Cordner,Leilua,Symonds,JWH the bench really offers no impact whatsoever, hopefully we can avoid any more injuries till the likes of Ryles,Symonds and JWH return around Anzac Day.
