  • Offside rule question

End of the day it was really stupid of Pearce to pass the ball to Graham but a thought keeps going through my mind... how is a player still walking back from the last tackle who then intentionally stands inside the opposition's attacking line and calls for the ball be onside? To me it seems like you don't see it that often because you're supposed to get back 10 after a tackle and stand face to face with the opposition (rather than waiting behind their line for an intercept... otherwise we'd all do it, right?)

Admittedly I haven't replayed the footage or put much thought into it, but I keep thinking about it. Some confirmation of the rules would be handy. Thanks in advance...

It was a sharks kick that we let bounce, he was onside from the kick. There weren't any tackles.

Thanks for the clarification... now I can go and sulk again.

Admittedly when I first looked at it I thought offside, just because it looked so dam easy.
But as silly as Pearce throwing the pass what about Le strange just standing there watching it all unfold!
We really could have used Morts and Moga. Letting Moga go annoys me more. All we did for the last 2yrs was rehabilitate him for the cowboys to reap the rewards. Club should be put before personal interest.

I'm sure there was an old rule that you can't call for the ball pretending you're an attacking player. Very hard to enforce if it is in fact still in the rule book.

IMO it was just smart from Graham.

And that's obviously why PearceOrf was smiling after the incident, he knew he'd just had his pants pulled down.

That's footy for ya. Sometimes shit happens.

a one handed pass just before 1/2time was a numb move anyway.

I was OK with the pass being thrown if Pearcey thought it was a teammate. It could have been a try down the other end.

Graham just hoodwinked him. Happens all the time but rarely comes off.

For the amount of experience he's had in first grade he sure looks the rookie at times.

                    Cheers for the clarification mate.

And I agree Merlin, dumb possie to throw such a pass.

Still IMO that didn't cost us the game. You don't lose an 80 min game and blame one play or player, especially with 15 errors made throughout.

I didn't see it last week, but the fox sports commentary claimed that graham did the exact same thing to Justin Hodges last week. It is heart breaking but it definitely happens.
I too was just as upset with Le Strange standing there throwing his arms up in the air at Pearce instead of making the tackle on Graham
