Hastings received the name 'Horrie' from Bob O'Reilly who gave players nicknames that started with the same initial as the surname.

Shouldn't that be "the most sought after"?Originally posted by Sonjay Billy Bob View PostMOST avoid shadows, especially when they are cast by rugby league *giants. Not Jackson Hastings.
Hastings, the most sort after teenager in the game, will join the premiers next year as an understudy to Mitchell Pearce, James Maloney and Jake Friend. And the prospect of being compared to his father is something the halfback is looking forward to rather than attempting to avoid.

One of my mates who goes for the merge was spewing over the fact that we signed horrie jnr. Apparently he's a very good player, with good pace and anticipation of the game. Can play anywhere in the backline and has a decent enough kicking game.Comment of the year:
Andrew Johns, Semi-Final vs North Queensland ,
"It's touched Lui's hand and travelled forward but that's not a knock on"

His timing could not be better,
There are no greater mentors available to Ho J than Friend, Pearce, Maloney & Morts.
With young prospects of potential class knocking on the door, lets include Moga...

Try and be unbiased, do you think Mortimer is a 80min half in the NRL, let alone someone who would be a mentor to a young half coming through?
Why not? Morts is a great young half. Just because he doesn't play the full 80 mins here for us doesn't mean his not good enough - we are just blessed to have three first grade standard halves who want to be here because of our strong culture.Originally posted by roosterproud:349570dual grand finalist, I gf win and one second place[/QUOTE

Morts would be a good mentor. His a good person who has some great attributes and would be able to mentor young kids coming through and give them helpful pointers.
If i was a club who needee a 5/8 i would go for mortimer. His too good to be just playing 20 mins a game.
Don't doubt he is a good person. I admit I was off the mark in regards to him mentoring in that type of roll. But in regards to his football ability, just my opinion, he is very very steady. Yes he did a job for us, but I honestly believe no better than any number of back up hookers/halves could do. I just don't think he is a first grade half.Originally posted by Easts75 View PostWhy not? Morts is a great young half. In hindsight whatever coach saw in Morts paid off
regarding what Morts can offer Ho J...
well compared to his more illustrious team mates probably not so much
Morts is a utility half & that's where most young players go before they take the reins & steer the ship
If there is one skerrick of wisdom, what ever it may be....then that's enough
Morts ensured the team didn't miss a beat when he came on to cover Jake & it worked
Maybe another look during origin when SBW & Morts were the halves....short memories"Qui audet adipiscitur"
