What really irks me, especially after the other night is Pearce & Maloney continually putting the bomb up on the last tackle. More often than not our runners weren't putting in a decent challenge anyway.
Instead they should take a good look at A.Reynolds, JT & DCE's last tackle options > good low & deep trajectory kicks close to the opposition in-goal pinning the wingers/fullback down. Same deal when they're closer to the try-line.....grubber the ball in for repeat sets. IMO Pearce has been deficient in this area for yonks and needs to introduce it so we can sustain pressure and tire the opposition.

I know exactly what the OP means as watching other teams play I invariably end up thinking "why can't Pearce and Maloney and Friend" do that when I see the likes of Thurston, Farah, Smith, DCE, Adam Reynolds and Todd Carney force repeat sets with smart short and long kicking games. This is a key weakness of the Roosters and it was mentioned by the commentary team during the match against the drizzle that the Roosters halves have forced the least number of drop outs out of all halves pairings in the competition."The price of freedom is eternal vigilance."

I agree totally. But I thought it was all Smithy's fault? That he coached the team that way? Yet he's not coach anymore and the problem persists. Perhaps Pearce actually is the culprit after all? If he doesn't learn to get repeat sets we will really struggle come the end of the year if we make the finals. And in the meantime he will get absolutely slaughtered by the critics and fans in SOO. And rightly so.

Maybe a tactic for later in the year going into the finals.....so as not to give our complete game plan away?Originally posted by Muffdaddy View PostIt is highly frustrating as to why we don't try the short grubber kicks in the in goal.
There MUST be a reason. Would love to know what it is.
Just a thought.

Muff, i suspect their reasoning is to take advantage of Tupou's height but it's just not happening. They need to mix it up otherwise their last tackle option is predictable.Originally posted by Muffdaddy View PostIt is highly frustrating as to why we don't try the short grubber kicks in the in goal.

I think in 2008, Pearce led the competition in tries off kicks and the last time we made the Grand Final in 2010, we were third in drop-outs received with 31. So I think we know he is capable of it, but it happens pretty rarely. It's also interesting that the Dragons were last in forced drop-outs and we don't need any reminding where they finished in 2010.
I know what nx1nx1 is saying, and it is a bit of a worry that as a team we are coming last in forced drop-outs. Hopefully JT can mix up their short kicking game with a few grubbers into the in-goal rather than the expected bomb.
I agree. I think we saw his leaping ability in the short kick-off at the end of the Storm game.Originally posted by theGman View PostMuff, i suspect their reasoning is to take advantage of Tupou's height but it's just not happening. You'd think Smith previously and TR would have identified this and worked to develop this skill with Pearce, wouldn't you. If so, is he just incapable of executing?Originally posted by theGman View PostWhat really irks me, especially after the other night is Pearce & Maloney continually putting the bomb up on the last tackle.
