  • Defence !

I know at the end of this trial match, Mick potter will be talking to his players and playing that "it's only a trial" card but they were genuinely outplayed today by our solid defence. I think that JT together with robbo have put in some solid structures and partnerships in defence particularly on the fringes where we were really weak last year.

We were a totally different team today and our players showed intent on winning games. I don't want to get too far ahead of myself by saying this but if we defend the same we did today and stop the linebreaks from opposition players, then the sky is the limit for our team this year.
    Comment of the year:

The Tigers didn't really throw much at us though. Benji did nothing. Farrah did nothing except kick behind the line which he always does.

I would like to see how we go against some of the top teams before getting to excited.

      They played patiently and responsible.

still wasnt happy as the game was won and winding down we let in two soft tries although i dont think they really scored the last try, grounded well before the line? but old habits die hard, mustt rule againsthe roosters! nice to see us leading the penalty count at half time what was the final penalty count?

Spacing in defence was awesome, especially around the middle third. You can just see the difference.

The few times they did get around us our sliding defence was very good, in numbers and cut down the angles well.

All tries off kicks is a good sign that you defence was on. No shoulder charge but gee Hargreaves was still punishing some of their forwards.

Wouldn't be to concerned about the 2 soft tries at the end. They took off Pearce,Maloney, jennings, mini and a few other good players 20 mins to go and thats when the soft tries stated coming in. I would have loved to see what the score would have been if those players didnt come off

Stephen suffered a stroke a few years back. Please be a bit more respectful. What's your excuse for bad grammar and bad manners?

                      Well said RWB.

On the footy, it is amazing how much of footy is about mental application. I saw a team out there that was hungry, disciplined, trusted each other in defence and wanted to play well for their coach.
It's very early days, bit its obvious Robbo is well respected by the players.

Hargreaves could be in for a cracker of a season especially if his discipline stays intact that I felt improved last year.

Also very impressed with Sam Moa last night, wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of one of his hit ups.

Anasta must be happy to be on a team that wins a penalty count for a change!

loved the way that maubs and fpn hunted together in defence all night.

jwh and sam moa hunting on the other side.

i think trent is useing a pack mentality as a defencive structure. a pair pf defenders hitting the 2nd ball reciever hard and quickly, giving the attacking team limited ball and options. fpn was devestating in attck and defence.

Dey had d same idea introduced where it was shutting down d oppositions plays !!!
