  • Am I missing something?

We all knew the Roosters signing SBW was going to lead to the rehashing of public ill feeling both to the man himself, and to the Roosters. And look, rightly so to an extent considering the less than idealic way in which SBW went about things when he left. Fair enough, we (the Chookies) signed up for it. However, it never ceases to amaze me the whole drama (sorry lack there of) around Falou and his departure.

Here is a guy who was given every opportunity by Rugby League. From Western Sydney sports schools, to his time at Marsden High (league excellence school in Sth East Brisbane) and his Goodna RLFC on the outskirts of Ipswich who poured money into him getting away on rep teams as well as developing him further. Rugby League provided him and his family better schooling, better oppertunities and a better life. But as soon as the chance offered itself he whored himself to the AFL. Whored himself to be the knife (try but failed) in the Rugby League heart. Paraded himself around in AFL glory through a season. He signed that AFL contract full knowing he was there to take away from the NRL. Not just in Western Sydney, but from the Rugby League as a whole. Why wasn't Falou scrutinised so personally? Why aren't people jumping up and down now about his imminent return to our game?

SBW hurt the Bulldogs club. He hurt the Bulldogs fans. He didn't pi55 all over the NRL and attempt to sabotage it. Falou did. Falou did it to a nation of fans. Now the media want to cream their pants over his possible return to league and the NRL/ARL swing their door open to him. It smacks of double standards and pure ignorance in my eyes.

Yes it means we are have a win over AFL. Yes it means we get to see the best of the best. Yes it's more bums on seats. And because of the I hope he does sign with the Eels. All of that is great. But I just hope the what's good for the gander is good for the goose.

Lastly, when Falou left I said to a number of friends it (Falou leaving) wouldn't matter in the end. Why? Because history shows for every SBW that leaves the game there is a Greg Inglis in the waiting. For every Falou that leaves there is a Ben Barba. For every Karmichael Hunt that leaves there is a Mark Gasnier wanting back in. From every Tuqiri, Matt Rogers, Dell Sailor.... The greatest game has always prevailed.

For the record I don't blame any athlete for making 'hay while the sun shines'. But my god double standards pi55 me off! Be interested to hear the chookpens thoughts. Positive or negative.

    Great post MR.

One thing that i do disagree on is the 'failure' of the AFL. They couldn't give a rats about Israel now because he has already accomplished what he was brought in to do - put GWS on the map.

So league supporters can pat themselves on the back all they want about this so called 'victory' but the damage has been done. The initial media spotlight has been used to its full effect.

I do have to say that although Ilike Folau, he is a double edged sword signing. He commands big bucks but is only a winger who can play centre due to his size. He doesn't have great footwork, his acceleration and agility are average and his passing is pretty shite yet he commands at least 500 on the open market. That is why i dont think Brisbane were all too upset when he was leaving.

Good assessment, he is only winger who looked good as a centre because of what was around him. Living in Brisbane I don't see what effect GWS is having down there can only go on what's being said. In my opinion Israel leaving does hold some weight regardless, but I take your points.

SBW and Izzy chased bigger dollars elsewhere which they are entitled to do just like the rest of us.

Neither player had any intention of hurting their clubs or the fans in the process. Time to get over it.

I agree, but Falou did so knowing full well what the AFL's agenda was. My point though, Falou copped no criticism in comparison.

I missed the gist of your post. It has little to do with what they actually did and more to with which slant could sell more papers. SBW earning more money and elongating his career in the process is a little too boring. On the other hand, "SBW brainwashed by evil Nasser and Mundine and selling out on his brothers in their time of need" is almost worthy of a batman movie.

Totally appreciate the alternate way at looking at it, with same result. Bias! Maybe the fact I am of opinion that Falou's action in COMPARISON are just as bad if not worse... Not that they are terrible, as I said an athlete (especially this day and age) needs to look after themselves. I still maintain Falou shat all over league through his decision, and more so than SBW.

Folau is at least saying he wants to come back and play rugby league, he wants to play for parramatta....All sonny can manage is glass half full...maybe this has a little to do with said lasting opinion.

Its quite simple really. Bulldogs fans are precious and fanatics much like the Dragqueens and Souffs fans but more violent. As i said before they are also media darlings like St Merge and Souffs and whenever somethi g happens it gets blown out of proportion eg SBW walkout.

I bet you my kidney that if SBW started playing for us instead of the Scum and walked out in 2008 after signing a long term deal and he walked out sure there would be headlines like Walkout blah blah blah it wouldnt have been as bad. And instead of public hatered there would be comments like build a bridge Roosters, no one wants to play for thr Rorters blah blah blah. And then once he returned to the NRL and signed with the Bulldogs instead of people saying he shouldnt be allowed back into the game people and the media would be praising the move.

See what I did there. I totally reversed what actually happened same story just switiching outcomes of clubs. The reason is that the Dogs are loved by the media and the fans have alot of input and were the hated ones. Yes I know were both hated but its different hate.

Were like the rich fat kid everyone hates, Dogs are the big bully that everyone hates but theyre scared of him. Not ot mention were also loathed by the media. Another tihng is if the walkout happened to us it would be more subtle as Roosters fans have more class and wont go on every single newspaper sports section and make hateflu comments. We also have less bogans unlike Penrith Panthers fans.

Also I got that rich fat kid from some other guy in this forum so Im not copyrighting it I think it was kegs or Davis woh made up that Rich fat kid line?

                            I'll let you decide, brainiac..

Ok that might be too hard for you so I'll confirm that I was seriously intending what I wrote, in a seriously non-sarcastic manner.
