  • Goodbye

Over the last few years I have been searching for reasons to justify my support for this club. My ongoing stress and frustration has been caused mostly by the happenings "off the field" with this club rather than "on the field" and that says a lot considering our recent form in the NRL.

It seems management and investors consider this club a "hobby" and not a "passion".

Rugby League to me is a "passion".

I was born, grew up and still reside in Belfield (Canterbury Bankstown District). My entire immediate and extended family are Bulldogs supporters and from a young age I supported the Roosters mainly because of my childhood hero Brad Fittler. I was heckled for years but I stood by my team even after 2004 when Brad retired because I felt it wasn't right to merely support a "player" and I stayed loyal to my club.

Since then I have been disgusted with the clubs direction and apparent lack of passion especially at management level. I was a Chookpen reader for a long time and only joined recently because I had to vent my frustrations.

Most of you will probably call me a traitor and a Judas but I'm done with this club. I find no reason to sweat and stress weekly and defend a clubs actions to family and friends when deep inside I know the club is making short sighted "headline grabbing" decisions for the sake of publicity and hidden agendas. I feel I have nothing in common with the club itself as I was born in Canterbury Bankstown.

I informed my family on the weekend that I no longer support the chooks. I threw my season pass in the bin and disposed of all my rooster supporter merchandise. The only thing i have kept is a 2002 jersey signed by Brad Fittler. Im sorry to say this club died the day he retired.

And yes I will be rooting for the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs to go all the way this year.

You should consider yourself lucky you are not 30 years older Leghorn.I wonder which bandwagon you would be hitching a ride with if you had to endure the 80`s and 90`s Roosters?

Like I said mate its the politics behind the scenes that has turned me off.

The players still show heart and passion but it is a matter of the blind leading the blind.

Premierships aren't everything, but it is impossible for me to support a team when I have no respect for a clubs leadership.

My hard earned is better spent elsewhere.

Born a Scumdog, bred a Scumdog, is a Scumdog. I know it's distressing for you Mr Leghorn but you have to accept that you are what you are - a Scumdog.

Enjoy the Kennel. And don't bother returning when the good days finally return, as they always do at the Chooks, and have done so for over 100 years.

He doesn't remember watching Hugh McGahan play his guts out with a bunch of nuffies around him or Kevin Hastings being arse-raped by the peons that ran the state of origin and Australian teams.

I do. I'm still here, not going anywhere.
